Recently, doing my Anki reviews became an insufferable chore that made studying Japanese very unpleasant. I didn't want to drop flashcards altogether because I know that's still the most efficient learning method but at the same time I wanted for my Japanese learning to be a fun and exciting activity.

Having a single database that can track your overall progress is almost like a drug and seeing the progress bar for my anime- and book-related decks going up feels like playing a RPG. i just started learning japanese in november, i have all N5 grammar pretty much memorized, and now im looking to start vocab, since i dont really know any words, only how to "use" them thanks to N5 grammar, my issue is when it comes to kanji, how should i learn that? learning kanji in a vacuum sounds really dumb, how would i memorize 6000 pictures? wouldnt it be better to learn kanji when i see them on the vocab? so for example

Reading through this guide, I found myself impressed at just how well it reflected the problems that I faced while learning, and how thorough it was. It directly confronts the issues of both those looking to learn Japanese by consuming media and those looking to gain as close to native accent as possible.
I am not an expert. I can only speak to my own experiences learning. I can tell you that using near identical methods described in the guide, I was allowed to skip semesters ahead in my college Japanese classes (from an introductory class to an intermediate one) and reached a point where I can comfortably read and enjoy light novels, anime and manga.
I highly recommend this guide to anyone starting out, or even those who are a little more advanced.
