Not to downplay Mahoyo but what about it in terms of a VN made it so impressive? Do people only say that because of the light works stuff in chapter 5? In UBW, Nasu is telling the audience not to pursue escapism otherwise they'll share Archer's fate, someone who ended up in a pit of despair of his own making.

Close the gate of heaven, our aspirations were doomed from the start." which ties into the poem at the very end.

Nasu was telling the readers to be a farmer or a salaryman and stop doing escapism.

Shirou wasn't stuck being a salaryman trapped into a boring and repetitive narrative. He's actually leaving the ideals behind and choosing to do whatever he wants with his life.

Which is why I love the moment when Shirou shows doubt before blasting the grail because he still wants to live and thinks about how sad Sakura would be if he were to die, it showed tremendous growth on his part. HF!Shirou finally grows up and sets him on the path to healing from his childhood trauma along with learning to value his own life.

Look at Archer and Kiritsugu. Sakura frees him from his obsession with Kiritsugu's ideals which stems from the colossal trauma he suffered when his family and everyone he knew were horribly killed and he was left alone to feel guilty about not being able to save anyone. The person he cares the most about is with him. Try reading what Nasu had to say. It's in the HF ending that Shirou became human.

The direction and amount of its cgs like the aoko flashback at the beginning of the game and the multiple fights in chapter 5. nasu is simply a mediocre action writer. this is particularly apparent at the beginning of his writing career, when he was particularly bad. for the most part f/sn fights are considerably better than his older works, but they still fall short, and are particularly boring to read when you realize that most of them are just hype, with no substance. shirou's fights are probably the biggest offender considering how extremely linear and repetitive they are, with the a lot of them involving the villain jobbing to him since nasu was incapable of writing believable fights otherwise.
