Basically KiriKiri had protections to check if it's running in a legit environment but it does that by checking a hardcoded path to the kernel32.dll. On x64 systems kernel32.dll path has changed from System32 to WOW64 for applications running under x32 emulation. That causes those checks to fail. Win8WOH overrides functions which get those pathes and fakes them to pass KiriKiri protections, it includes source code if you need to understand it further.

But pretty much all major games have official patches or new releases to fix this by now.

Definitely became one of my favorite 学園バトルハーレムもの. Most battles are about the heart instead of meme powers/powerups which I liked.

My perspective is that unlike real people who are made of flesh and blood and die when they get hit in the head with a big rock, heroines and other fictional characters are concepts and operate under different rules.
Lets say a heroine I like dies in her visual novel. That's a very different situation than when a real person dies. I can reload a save and make different decisions to keep her alive. I can switch to another route. I can start the VN over and read the parts where she's alive again. I can write and read fanfiction about her and go on new adventures with her that way.
For a heroine to truly die, die in the same sense that you and I will die and all humans before us have, would instead require that nobody thinks about her anymore and nobody remembers she exists.
For the purpose of example, I found an arbitrary obscure work of literature. I chose "Llewelyn. A Tragedy." by A. E. Carteret. The copy I found was published in 1876. This book is so obscure that I was unable to find a single person ever having discussed it on the internet. I myself have certainly never read it.
The majority of fiction, and by extension fictional characters, are like this. Only a tiny percentage of stories are remembered and see regular discussion.
The character Gladis from this book is what I would consider an example of a "dead" heroine.

We can prevent this fate, this "true death" from happening to our beloved heroines by letting them live in our minds. Spending time each day thinking about how much we love them. Talking about them with other people. Drawing pictures of them, writing new chapters of their story, and whole new stories for them to live in.
Thus, while I would be more than happy, more than overjoyed, to only love one pure, perfect heroine, I see it as my duty to protect and prolong ALL the most wonderful heroines of fiction. To search out forgotten heroines and extol their virtues, and to appreciate beauty and love wherever it is to be found.

I am aware that this is all a post hoc rationalization for my natural yet petty desire to be loved by a harem of gorgeous women, but isn't it such a wonderful post hoc rationalization? I'm quite fond of it.
