What's up with the Sanae/Kogasa fucked-up relationship?

While this whole 'Sanae in a coma' thing is an interesting theory, I have another theory that I believe is the true reality behind Gensokyo.

My theory is that Gensokyo isn't real, but that the 'outside' that they constantly refer to also isn't real.
I believe that the world outside is actually in some way post apocalyptic and that Gensokyo is actually a giant virtual reality.
Basically humanity doesn't exist in the physical sense in the world any more, this is because people have been turned into 'souls', discrete packets of energy that contain their being. Now originally all the souls should be in this virtual reality but due to some unforseen circumstances, only a handful of souls actually went into the machine.
So this god machine (Which we'll call ZUN) sits there on earth waiting until it can harvest all of humanities soul so that it may escape the planet.
As 'something' went wrong it means that the machine is probably operating in a position of neglect or at least decay, and I believe that every 'incident' that occurs within Gensokyo is some sort of attempt to preserve the souls within the machine against the gradual decay of the machine's memory cluster by using places within the memory of the machine that were originally meant for preserving the history of humanity, hence the new locations that appear in every game.
Now you may be thinking 'what about Yukari? Doesn't she bring in things from the outside?' again see corruption and also not all the souls that humanity became have faded away, so these are integrated into Gensokyo through her as the selected agent of ZUN.
Wierd hair, powers, hats and frills are all explained by the souls themselves fading away gradually and corrupting the data stored within them.
So you see Gensokyo is not real, but it's better then the desolate wasteland that is the outside.

I'm not sure what to think of Sanae. That's a really cute picture; but she doesn't seem to have as well defined a role or personality as some of the other characters(even if that's mostly the fans doing). I guess this is a problem with some of the newer characters in general, since they don't appear in all the official side material.

I would like to love her. I'm kinda in two minds; on one hand, yay green hair and non traditional Miko outfit; but Frog hairclip? Really? I liked that none of the Touhous had tacky hair accessories, just bows and stuff, no lumps of plastic or anything. I can't stand those. I do like the Sanae art where the frog thing is actually attached to a hairband though, that looks pretty nice. Actually having something like that clipped into the hair is a bit wtf.
