Consciously or otherwise feel like a lot of people end up starting to read primarily from a single label, even if they don't notice it.
Like a decade ago people stuck to fantasia because of date a live mass producing clockfags, these days I think overlap may be the primary gateway with arifureta, oreaku, TRPG and a decent number of niche series that nonetheless have a good following.
So yeah starting like this is probably normal for whatever reason.

Really depends on what you read. If you stick to a same author or series, you will need to look up much less. Each author has words and phrases that they use often.
But that means once you start something new you'll have a lot more new stuff to look up and might get frustrated by that.
There are sites like JPDB where you can look up the range of words that are used in different books.

You can try listening to audiobooks while reading as a crutch if you have a hard time getting through books, but don't rely on it too much in the long term.

the shit about the first 2-3 grades of joyo kanji keeps getting parroted but it's true, with that you can read 50-70% of the kanji out there without stopping to check a dictionary
past that it fully relies on what you read, and you will have to learn what i can only call LN-genre-joyo for lack of a better word, for romcoms they have a set, for fantasy and action they have their set, for mystery thrillers they have their set, and so on
as another anon pointed out, it also depends on the author having their own set
this is less annoying than it sounds like however, because you only have to learn a common word once before it just sticks, and uncommon words like 3-4 times then it's smooth sailing
honestly the problem most of the time isn't vocab and stopping for a dictionary, but conjugations and things between the kanji, that's from where a lot of the depth comes from

You might be confusing it with the Crow Record spin-off. That was axed years ago and has no hope of coming back except as LN content, like vol 17 was and half of vol 22 will be.

Mostly a weird entitled "I can do better" attitude.
Which mind you, it's absolutely a thing in LNs too given literal genres have come to be thanks to that, the problem is the entitlement to someone else's characters, world and lore, in LNs seethefixes are just outright another series following similar steps (or taking from multiple series) instead of being a literal fanfic.

>In a certain metropolitan, high-class apartment complex room
with closed curtains,
“Ah, this is so heart-pounding!”
A young woman said in breathless excitement.
She was standing nude in a very dim room. To her side was a
huge, close to 3 metre-long, cocoon-like mass.
“Now then.”
Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online Volume 2 – 2nd Squad Jam (I)
SECT.5 - The Beginning of the Tournament
161
After the woman held out her hands, a part of the huge cocoon
opened up. Inside, where red LEDs were shining, was a gooey,
40 cm-deep liquid.
This was a machine called an 《Isolation tank》── or a
《Floatation tank》.
In which one’s body was suspended in a liquid, highly
concentrated with salts and warmed to body temperature, and
once the tank closed and the lights were turned off, it became a
world where one could no longer feel sound, light, smell, touch,
nor even gravity.
It was a machine used for ultimate relaxation by cutting off all five
human senses to rest a tired body and mind, but, naturally, it was
also used for FullDive technology.
A normal AmuSphere cuts off almost all sensations too, but a wee
bit of noise was still transmitted.
By entering this isolation tank, the user could come close to
almost complete isolation. Thus, it was only natural for
serious players who wanted to be entirely in the game to desire a
device like this.
Such isolation tanks were installed in relaxation establishments
and net cafes as rentals, but the cheapest one would cost as much
as a Kei-car39, while expensive ones cost as much as a luxury car.
It was impossible for a player to install one at home unless they
were highly affluent.

Some men were making a calm analysis like this,

young, but IRL both are women in their thirties? Are you still okay

Another man mercilessly dumped cold water on him. And then,
“Ladies in their thirties? I’m still eighteen and a virgin, but on the
contrary, that’s just my type?”
And another young and brave man pointlessly talked about his
taste.
“Oi, wanna go to a VR eroge with me next time? If you truly are
over eighteen, I could take you along? You need a letter of
introduction for it after all.”
“Are you serious?”
“A man doesn’t go back on his word, ya know?”
“Let me call you 〝aniki〟!”7
“Alright! But, don’t you dare fall for me, ‘kay? I have no interest in
homosexuality, kay?”
“Get a room you guys!”
On the screen, Fukaziroh, who was actually a nineteen-year-old,
rapidly fired five grenades while face-up.

But still, using those as an anti.loc argument is rather stupid, haven't read the former but I did read the gacha TL because of content not in the WN (and nobody has shared the raws) and the translation is fine, and if anything given it at least tries to localize honorifics instead of removing them puts it a step ahead even the dendro and TRPG ones, which IIRC have no honorifics yet they are considered the golden standard even here.
And while exaggerated, the speech quirks of everyone come across just fine, it's far from the universal deadpan monotone of an actually bad TL.
7S and YP are far worse still, if not both mushoku and COTE before the de-censorship then evil lord and kagejitsu are still better anti-loc arguments.

Normalfags let youtubers do all their thinking for them. In the past it was Mother's Basement,a channel run by a fat ugly canadian being cucked by his OF whore of a girlfriend, and now it's that podcast trash taste. Ironically, the anon above who called SAO fans nigger cattle is the most cattle like of all.
>>46313972
It's good, people complain about SAO ina completely unsubstantiated way:It stole from dothack,its a bad game,its a harem;
>.Hack was not first, Reki published an SAO ero-manga in a 2000 issue of BugBug magazine under the alias Mario Ayashi, the protagonists even still named Kirito and Asuna
>SAO was inspired by games like Ultima Online, Wizardy, and Ragnarok Online, lots of the mechanics of those games made their way into the show, it's Millenials and Zoomers faults if they think every MMORPG is WoW or FFXIV
>faggot cuckold complaint;also could be a roasty.

Bottom line,SAO may not be the best LN ever written, but in terms of "Gamer" literature and LNs it has to be near the top. Log Horizon and it's obsession with politics is boring. Overlord is overpowered just like Saitama but played completely straight. SAO is really enjoyable.

This is probably a long shot, but does anybody know of any 癒し系 and/or 恋愛 LNs with a heavy focus on nature? Preferably a rural/countryside setting but I can live with something more urban. Fantastical elements are also OK if it happens to have any. I know it's vague, but I'm mainly just looking for that sort of feeling you get when you look at natural beauty but in 小説 form.

>> No.46343282

>>46343116
Sure, here are a few light novels (LN) that fit your criteria:

"Natsume's Book of Friends" (夏目友人帳) by Yuki Midorikawa: While not primarily a romance LN, it has elements of both healing (癒し系) and romance intertwined with a heavy focus on nature. The story follows Natsume Takashi, who can see spirits and inherits a book from his grandmother that contains the names of spirits bound by contracts. He embarks on a journey to free these spirits while forming bonds with both humans and yokai (supernatural creatures). The series beautifully explores themes of loneliness, friendship, and the beauty of nature.

"Spice and Wolf" (狼と香辛料) by Isuna Hasekura: This LN series combines elements of romance, economics, and fantasy with a strong focus on nature. Set in a medieval fantasy world reminiscent of Europe, it follows the travels of a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence and a pagan wolf deity named Holo, who takes the form of a young girl with wolf ears and a tail. As they journey through picturesque landscapes, they develop a deep bond while engaging in adventures and unraveling mysteries.

"Kino's Journey: The Beautiful World" (キノの旅 -the Beautiful World-) by Keiichi Sigsawa: This LN series follows the travels of a young adventurer named Kino and their talking motorcycle, Hermes, as they explore various countries and cultures. Each chapter features a self-contained story, often reflecting on philosophical themes such as human nature, society, and morality. The narrative often showcases the beauty of nature in different settings, from tranquil countryside villages to bustling urban landscapes.

"Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki" (おおかみこどもの雨と雪) by Mamoru Hosoda: While not a light novel in its original form, it was adapted into one. The story revolves around a young woman named Hana who falls in love with a mysterious man who can transform into a wolf. After his tragic death, Hana raises their two children, Ame and Yuki, who inherit their father's ability to transform. The novel beautifully portrays the struggles and joys of raising children in the countryside while exploring themes of identity, family, and the bond between humans and nature.

These light novels should provide you with the calming, natural beauty you're seeking, along with elements of romance and fantasy. Enjoy your reading!

Then why did you mention those examples when they aren't like IS when you get down to it? Even rakudai and asterisk have more parallels and even then half of them like the class princess tsundere was a pretty common archetype by then, same with the MC walking into her while in a varied state of undress, one weirdly specific scene that still gets used to this day mind you.

>those examples when they aren't like IS when you get down to it?
well this is where we disagree. all three of the aforementioned except magika do the same premise (1 guy in an all girls mech school), magika just drops the mechs for magic swords. sure magika might be the loosest of the 3, but in the case of hxh and bahamut you would have to choose to not see it. one has a literal chifuyu clone and mirrors the setting of IS with an apocalyptic invader twist, the other has a cecilia clone and near identical exosuit designs to IS. the differences in the overall plot aren't strong enough to negate such obvious parallels

This. Shizuku is the most multifaceted and well written: is the only one of all Nagumo wives who fell in love with him in a really progressive and organic way.
Also, is the chilhood friend of the Hero and Hajime stealing her from him without even trying was the ultimate humilliation to this character

Eh the word was poisoned too much, can't take the argument seriously.
While shizu is unique within the context of nagumo's onaholes, that's all there is really.
Guess there's also the appeal of a borderline tomboy acting like a pure maiden in love but eh.

Translations should evolve with the times. As an example, Centorea from Monster Musume has a ye olde English style in the Seven seas official translation. Their basis for this was that she usually spoke politely and occasionally used archaic words like -dono when talking. Being polite with a few quirky words would have suited her far better.

Good.
Haven't had to rely on TLs for a few years now but every time I did you could tell the faux-sharkpear tone when dealing with fancy keigo was just the localizer tryharding way too much.
It's even worse when they do the usual of having the character talk with ye old english but as a pissant instead of actual high-class language.
I may impress simpletons that don't know how ancient english actually works but if you have even passing knowledge of it, it quickly becomes really fucking dumb.

>Nanao from nanatsu
No she does actually talk full-on archaic language. It's more than just a ござる here and there. But in this instance making her dialogue "Shakespeare" isn't the correct move because her manner of speech is meant to convey that she's a foreigner (i.e. Japanese). I don't know how you would localize it.
