I know this list is limited, but I cant help editing it.

What do you guys think?

>> No.4605242

Maybe. I think it might be better smaller, though. If you cram too many on there it may confuse newfriends to the point where they will make request threads anyway. It's probably better to use the chart as a spring board for people new to visual novels to develop an interest that will make them able to find other translated visual novels themselves. It might be good, though, to stuff useful visual novel sites somewhere on the chart.

It's shit. But since you insist on continuing to post it I'll give some input.

Kikokugai isn't a "must see." I can see how some people might like it but for those who aren't into kung fu shit it's pretty bad.

Replace Da Capo with Suika, the superior Circus title. Chaos;Head is bad and should also be replaced with something else.

Then there are some mediocre games on there that, while not bad, shouldn't be on the list over some of the better translated VNs.

Short, Beginner tier:
Planetarian, True remembrance, Narcissu, Saya no Uta
"The big VN three" tier:
Clannad, FSN, Umineko

Phoenix Wright, YMK, Tsukihime

The line between VNs and video games is pretty blurry, regardless. I think that games like Phoenix Wright, Heavy Rain, etc. are great because it means that VNs get wider recognition as a storytelling medium over here in the west. I don't think it's a bad thing to recommend them on a VN list.

A lot of people put it around ~100 hours, if you complete absolutely everything. It depends heavily on how fast you read and whether you wait for the voice-overs to finish, of course. If FSN took you ~60 hours, though, ~100 for Clannad is probably about right.

Frankly, I've been making my own recommendation image too, but I go by a different approach.
As you can see, I ignore all that "entry level, good for beginners etc shit" and just go order them in alphabet (Still got these to include in my chart: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kana - Little Sister, Kanon, Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer, Kira Kira, Narcissu, Nocturnal Illusion, Phantom of Inferno, Planetarian, Policenauts, Princess Waltz, Saya no Uta, Seasons of Sakura, Sekien no Inganock -What a Beautiful People-, Sengoku Rance, Sharin no Kuni, Snatcher, Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke o, Soul Link, Suika, Symphonic Rain, Tears to Tiara, True Love, True Remembrance, Tsukihime, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, Utawarerumono, Wanko to Kurasou, Words Worth, Yo-Jin-Bo, Yukizakura, Yume Miru Kusuri.

What I plan is, that I'm going to detail on the chart what genres those games about, and then just going to leave there vndb's address, and tell whoever interested in a particular game to use the search there, and decide what to play basing on the information available, because
a) /jp/ never agrees on anything
b)Truthfully, the average people on /jp/ played less than 10-20 games.
c) /jp/ isn't here to babysit anyone, especially those new to the internet
d) everyone knows his/her own taste the most.

I'm lazily updating this anyway, so it won't be done for a while though.

Well, at least people have an idea about those games, since most would be on one page instead of navigating there, and their crucial genres would be on the chart already, so if say... you are looking for horror game, you can already spot a few.
I for one don't like arguing over what should get a place, or what's a better beginner title (just who gives a shit really?), and of course the notorious OPINIONS ("No play X, because it's better than Y"). It's easier to just have everything decent on one page, and let everyone decide it for his/her own.
