Goumeguri is not something that will be remembered fondly, but at least it's not something that will be remembered with disgust and distaste like Gousotsu.
The lack of text is indeed telling. On the other hand, the larger amount of text in Reiwa is not interesting either.
The fanfiction vibe is very strong. But that can be said of practically everything new in Higurashi.
Anyone expecting any answers from this is either naive or ignorant. It's still better not to answer questions that the author of the draft didn't provide answers to than to make up your own, which will be ignored by the real author anyway.
I really can't wait until Ryukishi decides to recycle the story again with slight changes so he can fool the garbage eaters with another excellent sequel with lots of empty connections to other never-released works. Good thing Tomato dropped most of this nonsense from his work, he gets a thumbs up for that. In fact, he deserves plus points for every single thing omitted from Sotsu. I see. I guess I must be a goat. I do understand the nuance of the story and the central message but the "howdunnit" of the questions arc ruins the experience for me. The misdirection and deception are just too much for me; all of it is done to fool the reader, and only the reader, serving no other purpose; far too many people are accomplices in each case; obviously they're gonna lie about events but we're also not viewing certain events from their PoV, but rather a seemingly omnipresent camera angle put near the action. That we're not actually seeing a PoV but we still see the faked/unreal events nonetheless sits very poorly with me; on top of all that, there's the "death" of personalities/tuplas as part of the mystery. The stupidity of characters such as Krauss and Natsuhi being unaware of the whole Kanon and Shannon situation (if you even believe that solution) after all those years makes it even harder to reach the truth. "Surely they're not that fucking stupid?"

When you examine the questions arc in hindside you're looking at a story that are just hypothetical throwaway stories Yasu just thought up, with a bunch of events that we see being fake (fucking Kinzo, man...). All this is to deceive the reader and to create a harder mystery to solve. Surely less complex mysteries could have been written that tell the exact same story but with less backlash, such as that one after Chapter 2 and the rewrite of Chapter 3. Sorry, but I can't overlook these elements of the story. I'm rather amazed that others have no problem with what I've mentioned, happily touting it as a great multi-layered story written with love and care. I do not see the love or care put into it.

I really like the overall direction of the ending though, focusing on the burden Satoki is carrying even after Rika convinces her to not kill herself and argues she has sinned too by abandoning her friends. She is giving a chance to this miraculous world rather throwing everything away, but clearly still has trouble believing she is even allowed there.

There's conversation at the end about carrying their karma, but even outside of that note how Satoko doesn't smile once in the epilogue.

jessica is the one character you can make a reasonable point of asking "why doesn't she notice?" and the answer to that one is a little more complex: she may have noticed, and just doesn't choose to mention it to shannon so sayo thinks she's getting away with it - she may have noticed similarities, but written it off as familial resemblance - she may not have noticed because she's too wrapped up in seeing one as a friend and the other as the faraway mystery boy she never really gets much of a chance to talk to - or she may not have noticed because she IS that dumb/bad at recognising faces

I get it was addressed more broadly but I didn't claim it was a big deal, because in the grand scheme of things it was a relatively minor issue. I fully understand what we're meant to think but I (and likely the others you were addressing) still found that answer(s) unsatisfying; I don't find it reasonable that they had not been found out after years of service. The family not knowing about it and their reaction to events featuring Kanon or Shannon makes it far harder to reach the truth. Again, it wasn't anything major but it certainly did contribute to my dislike of the question arc murder mysteries.

That we get these false perspectives all over the place, which serve only to fuck with the player still massively sucks and I can't really swallow such framing. Meta program Miyao is referred to as the "kill program" by MIYAO, and claims that people will keep dying if Meta Miyao doesn't disappear. He is not lying, but he isn't being honest. The ending of Ciconia isn't even real. The entire thing probably happened at one point, but what they are watching is a recording or a forgery of sorts. All to gaslight Meta Miyao into willfully disappearing.
MIYAO is the side of Mitake Miyao that wanted to live in the server at the end of Ciconia, while the Meta Miyao is the aspect of him that rejects it, because he still thinks the world is beautiful. If I had to guess, MIYAO can't bring himself to fully accept the simulation until he kills off that last bit of attachment to his humanity. Angel Jayden is talking to MIYAO at the end, asking HIM why he refuses it.

But that's an impossible task. To fix Sotsu you first have to fix Gou, and to fix Gou you first have to throw Gou in the trash and start all over again in VN form. People who convinced themselves that Gou is fine and only Sotsu has flaws are now very surprised that the result similarly sucks. I certainly wouldn't call it an abrupt ending, as it was obvious how badly everything was dragged out. Further chapters would only have prolonged the suffering of all parties involved.

R07's claim of a phonebook sized outline was always pretty questionable. The director received it and read it in a single night. He also talked about referencing the VN for Watadamashi's script, so could and pasted stuff wasn't even in the outline and the general shape of the repeats was down to the staff.

Ryukishi's writing does not work with short stories. The only decent short story he's written is Hotarubi. Not counting Higanbana because it's really just a bunch of interconnected episodes with no central story. That said, Gerokasu had some stuff I liked, but I don't think I would want to read it if it was any longer because the concept is offputting to me. The part at the end where he broke down the whole timeline of events was entertaining, anyway. There were some good concepts thrown around, too.
