Musicanon here, NuDisco arrange of Kagome Kagome and some Invisible Full Moon. 5/9 done for my album.
I need to adjust the mix but it's pretty much done. My only gripe is the same as always, it doesn't sound as professional as some artists like Shibayan and Syrufit. I doubt I'll ever be satisfied until my stuff sounds like it's on par with Japanese doujin producers.

People usually say this because of mixing issues but I really don't think it's your case at all.
The only reason you don't think it sounds "professional" is probably that it's not as involved as the composers you admire, who use way more effects and more heavily designed sounds.
Your stuff doesn't sound amateurish at all, it's just not as good yet on a creative level.

Keep at it, you have parts of this down that some people never even get once they go pro for real.

Depends a bit on what you want, but I would try to make the upper eye lines a bit longer to cover the closer to center of the face area.
If not most artist tend to make the upper eye lines thicker or avoid sanpaku eyes(irises not filling all the vertical space of the eye).
Honestly eyes have a lot of dam things you can change it's hard to get them right, but imo Marisa looks a bit surprised with those eyes.

The only thing I felt was a little weird in the Deaf to all but the song one was that it had bit buzz/bassy droning in the backgroundx, at around 04:21 is when I noticed it most clearly. I do notice though that it seems just be a thing with the mix itself, so if you mess enough with the frequencies it can be easened. Save for that, I don't really feel anything off.

I just got curious due to your non touhou track, It somehow felt a bit like pirate like, felt like a stage inside wooden boat without context and with bad part of town I thought about pirates. I also thought that it sounds like action/platforming similar to Castlevania but not sure about that.
For the 2hu one I thought it had a SA stage1-3 and UM stage 4 feeling, had to listen to it a few times since at the first time I as more thinking of a PCB stage4 kinda level when listening.

I know you tried really hard with the pose but honestly her upper body is quite fucked up. When the pose is hard like yours and you feel you are going to job uncontrollably if you attempt it, the best thing you can possibly do is look at references to see how other people do it, be it a drawing or an IRL pose. For example, I saw her pose and instantly thought of Yusuke from YYH since he also has a finger gun. I actually went found an image with a very similar pose to the one you were attempting, and I feel that could have been a good guide if I attempted a pose like this. Don't take it personal, no ones born knowing everything, but what you don't know, you must research.
Her legs also need some work but they aren't as bad as the torso. When you squat, your knees spread, instead those knees are both pointing forward. That leg pose is really hard to do also, maybe only 1 knee on the ground as support would look more natural. Also the knee that's further from the viewer is bigger when it should be smaller.

Personally I like the things you draw (big 2hu boobs) and I like that you draw so often. But I feel you need to take more time on each piece. Not every piece needs to be a 10 hour long task, but I feel your art would really start evolving if you tried to be more perfectionist once in a while. For example, every 3 drawings, you could try making one look as good as you possibly can, no matter how much time it takes. That's where you learn a lot, since you need to absorb a lot more information that you don't currently have to do that, and then when you go back to quick drawings, that information will start to appear there too. If you are just drawing for fun and not looking for improvement at the moment though, I won't say this again. This is just a random 4chan user's opinion, after all.

Stop shading with the airbrush. Especially for anime-style Try doing more solid shades then blur when needed(for example, when the object casting the shadow is further, the shadow is more blurred). Theres a lot of nuance to shading so just take it easy and constant while taking steps to improve

The hair is fine, although you should remember that it follows the curve of the face, and comes to a point at the top. Her fringe looks a little too straight in other words.
What >>45772680 said is otherwise true though, the shading on the face is totally out of line with everything else. The highlights are pretty nice, but the shadows don't work.
If you're the guy I think you are I'd advise working on something as if you only had a pen for a while.
No colour, the shading you get by hatching / crosshatching / whatever.
It might sound boring / harsh, but I think it'd probably be the best thing for you. It's not that the airbrush tool doesn't have it's place, but the way you're using it isn't working and I can't put my finger on how exactly, without sounding overly critical.
The best way I can describe it is like if you took a photo of a mannequin and drew over it.

Other than that though, you've improved decently. Maybe just even drawing something other than character portraits would give room to develop without some of the habits I think you have.

It's subtle, but a skin-coloured mannequin has smoother features than a real human does.
Real humans have sharp brows, cheekbones, chins etc. but mannequins only have very soft contures that look vaguely like a human's features because they lack the context to dispel the illusion.
Of course, anime faces are well known for not following any law of proportion, or skull geometry, so take it with a pinch of salt, but what I'm trying to get at here is that the shading is too soft. I'm not saying it has to be razor sharp either, like a point source of light in vaccum, but using a lighter shadow and blurring it less might work out better.

If I look very closely I can see the flat colours where you've drawn in the shading deeply enough that it isn't affected by the blur. The only real thing I can tell you to do is try to use partially transparent layers instead of filling in block colours. Maybe try also quickly tracing a sketch of what her brow/nose would look like if you only had black and white.

All I can really say is that the linework is very nice. If I compare the shading on the hair to that of the face I can tell you the hair has been done quite well, and maybe you should try and keep that in mind for the next one. There's more detail in that that's benefitting of organic material, with steeper changes in colour.

Oh, and the direction of lighting might be funny. Actually if you fixed that all my earlier comments might be rendered invalid. The shadows from the hair on the right side of her face look like they're coming from the left of the camera and behind it, but the highlights on the left side of her face look as if there's a light somewhere to her left. If it's in front of her it'd light up the shadows on the right of her face more, but if it was behind or in line it'd have shadow coming from her nose and brow across her face more, and both positions would probably light up that patch over her left eye. That's something I just noticed, and it might have been what was bugging me.

I'm sorry if this isn't helpful for you, I'm not an expert by any means but I am confident enough in my own observational ability to make a comment. I hope I did help in any case, and you've piqued my interest enough that I want to help, even if it's not perfectly articulated what I mean. I'm just some internet stranger anyway, so it's up to you to figure out what to do with that advice, and it might even be nonsense from someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. In that case, try looking really hard at your art to figure out for yourself what you might need work on. If you can do that, anything else is just a matter of practice.

painting isn't that hard, it is hard but not that much different from drawing, something really importat is to know the area you are painting on, knowing the volume/mass makes doing the shading,lighting and other stuff easier, color picking is kinda tricky, going darker or more saturated can be used as shading but the colors are different, then theres the style, you should start little by little instead of over polishing.

i'll give you the the plain hair shine is a good ZUN copy (it doesn't really extend into the hair like the nitori but then again the moon light is coming from the back), but ZUNart isn't pillow shaded, the dark edges are just more subtle. the pillow shading comes from overshading the other side of a dark edge, and i suspect here it's done for stuff like the sweater folds because they have a continuous curve, but it doesn't look right and doesn't feel like it'd be a quirk of the ZUN style.

About a month ago I did a NuDisco arrange of Flan's theme for my album but decided to redo it because I didn't think it was up to scratch.
Does anyone mind listening to this sample and seeing if it sounds alright? It's unmixed and cut in places just so it's not too long.
I think it sounds really amateur and not NuDisco-y enough. To me, it sounds more like 2000s electronic than what I'm going for, like BeatMario's style. I want my music to sound like it came from one of Shibayan's albums, obviously it's not as good but I still want it to be of a standard akin to that both in style and overall quality.

I have little to no knowledge on music theory, and zero clue about what goes into creating music, so my insights are only from the perspective of a listener.

The complexity is there, and I can tell there's several layers' worth of instruments, but it sounds too front-ended, if that makes any sense. Busy, in a way that makes it hard to appreciate each instrument's line. You mentioned it's unmixed, so I'm wondering if that's part of the process. Shibayan's stuff has an excellent sense of depth; the bassy synths are what I can only describe as fuzzy while still being prominent, and most every instrument is clearly distinguishable. Synths aren't always going at full blast, with plenty of pauses and muting, which I think helps add to that punchy feeling. When comparing this track, I don't quite hear that punchiness, though again I have no clue how much of that can be attributed to mixing (mastering?).

Taking 00:25 on your track, I was a little more reminded of something like hatsunetsumiko's On Fire. More funk or disco-feeling than nudisco, if that makes any sense. Closest thing I can think of to compare it to off the top of my head is 3:35 on Shibayan's Love: there's a lot of distinct rhythms going on, and they don't stick to constant eighth notes. The percussion has this groove to it that's really satisfying to tap along to. I guess you'd call that complexity? Now that I've listened to it a few times over, I'm wondering what that section in your sample sounds like without the... floaty-sounding synth going on in the back, or maybe just making it quieter. No idea how else to refer to it. I don't think it sounds particularly Shibayan-like.

Last thing, I think you're onto something with that very last part, with the intro notes to her theme. I don't know why it stuck out to me, but it did.

It's late, and I'm worried I've just vomited up a wall of text instead of giving you something tangible to work with. I may very well be completely off my rocker and should not be allowed to write half the things I do. Hope it helps somehow, though. I wanna listen to more.

I'm genuinely glad I was able to provide some advice! About the full sound you're talking about, I 100% get what you're referring to, and it's a good thing to aim for, but at the same time, having some "emptiness" to contrast with helps a lot imo. Gives the listener some downtime and helps build anticipation for the fuller parts, or something of that sort.

I dig that section without the synth more for sure! At least, in a vacuum. I think it's a good example of how you don't necessarily need to fill things out to make them sound good, but it might just be a taste thing at the end of the day.

I went at it pretty much entirely focused on comparing it with Shibayan since you mentioned it and I do listen to his stuff a ton, which might've been a little too narrow-minded of me. Finding your own style is pretty important, and you're the one actually making the song so it makes sense to go for what you like and think sounds good. Easy for me to say since I don't make music, but still. For what it's worth, incorporating a few genres into albums doesn't feel out of place most of the time. Look at someone like Paradot, his albums have a ton of electronic and electronic adjacent subgenres that I swear sound made up half the time, but it all works together without a hitch. I'll be looking forward to hearing your album if you happen to post something about it here.

Well it's obviously not using pressure or anything, but I loaded the VM into fullscreen on my drawing tablet (XP-Pen in this case) and just worked from there. Worked much better than using a mouse.
It was particularly AIDS about the tablet until I got the new VMware mouse drivers tho, cause the mouse pretended it was half a screen away from my pen, unlike the (hardware) mouse.
