His jap readers were gonna kill him over ep8, and although the manga takes away the active thinking aspect of the vn (which is why I prefer the vn), it makes itself more accessible without taking away from its core message and themes. IMO R07 recognized that not everyone couldn't reach the core of the mystery solely due to a lack of love and made the manga more accessible for those people at least. ''Multiple truths'' isn't the single absolute point of Umi, it's about being understood, and being understood isn't the same as ''Anything can be true'', it's about seeing the truth behind the possibilities the author (R07) clearly put there to be seen. Looking with love has multiple layers of meaning and the one that Beato's plot represents is in the reltationship with fiction which is understanding the message from the author through how she writes her games and empathy/seeing the side of the other person even if she did bad things. The games are written with purpose in their choices and full of hints for a specific truth, if it was about how the truth could be anything, it would donwplay the act of trying to understand her and interpret her stoires with faith in her intentions.

The manga doesn't just shovel it's truths either, it uses them to build on the parallel with Beato and Ange; Confession gives everyone and opportunity to understand the heart of the story. While it does lose active aspects which again, is something I heavily dislike, it serves Beato and Ange's parallel and leads directly into Cage of Obligations, the thematic culmination where all the characters show a new understanding of themselves and the cycle they were stuck in. It's not a coincidence many people believe the manga to be superior to the vn, it genuinely is a wonderful adaptation of a wonderful text if you ask me. I just prefer the vn because I am nostalgic for it and enjoyed thinking about the mysteries myself, along with the incredibly immersive music and more detailed text.

Jessica has always been a problem with Umineko's ending. Essentially, the charges against her are that she was too stupid to realize her servants were cross-dressing. There's no weird control issues like George had, and there's no emotional neglect like Battler's "sin" of forgetting a promise he made when he was five. Yasu's tragic villain schtick falls apart with Jessica, because unless we're missing something, Jessica is a straightforward victim of Yasu's manipulation.

A story with no redemption like Jessica's is the perfect anti-love screed.

Feel free to read my ramblings.
If both Maria and George are culprits, they can say that Jessica is dead when she is not. If this is the case, it would open the door to Jessica being a culprit as well, since she isn't dead (bypassing the rule that a culprit cannot die). Therefore, Jessica would also be able to lie (conveniently, both George and Maria are also the ones to confirm Nanjo's death/the state of the locked room) about Nanjo state of living, providing him the same cover she got from George and Maria, if this is the case, then every death that Nanjo confirms is up for debate (this seems kind of crazy to me, just in terms of how complicated it can make the puzzle, but I haven't been over every death with a fine comb yet and I have to admit I have no reason to rule that out for now). Supporting evidence regarding Jessica being alive: Again, both George and Maria are the ones making statements regarding if she is dead or not when finding her "corpse". Battler appears to be innocent, however, he says: George, Maria and himself could not have killed Jessica. However, in under this theory, this statement that I thought to be a lie at first glace is actually possible to be truthful if Nanjo is indeed alive, he could have "killed" Jessica, since he is not dead. This would therefore maintain Battler's innocence since he is not lying. Interestingly, this is the only statement he makes concerning Jessica's death, which for not appears to me to be the critical point that allows the entire house of card to stand. Her actually being alive opens up a million other potential culprits.

For now, I believe that Battler is innocent, and that Nanjo and Jessica are both alive at the end, they are both culprits and that George and Maria are also culprits along with them. This isn't my final decision. I will now go back and look at the deaths Nanjo confirms. Off the top of my head, I remember both him and Kanon confirming Genji's death, which could also be critical in figuring out the tale.

Going along with the "Battler is innocent" theory. I want to remind myself that I currently view him as innocent because he is strangely very quiet at the end of the mystery, and the few statements he's made appear to be truthful. I reviewed his purple statements. An interesting one is the one concerning Shannon's death. He says "...anyone could have killed her besides George-aniki.". This can be true, protecting his innocence. There is no requirement for George to kill Shannon himself and we have a bunch of other potential culprits. She is also not required to be dead. I will now review the facts surrounding her death. Before I start, I have had a realization regarding Nanjo. It is possible for him to be innocent even when going off my previous theory. There is no requirement for him to be a culprit, actually. Jessica, George and Maria can all be culprits and lie about his death. He could simply be unconscious. The culprits confirm his death, but really that is irrelevant, the only thing that's important to maintain his innocence is that he does not lie. This is important, because if true, it closes the box of his death confirmation, if he is innocent they are all true, removing a bunch of doubt from the equation. If Nanjo is innocent under this theory, then Shannon truly is dead, but if he isn't, then she could be alive as the ones to confirm her death are George (required to be a culprit under this theory) and Nanjo, however, the culprits are allowed to lie, so she could still be alive (I can't see why this would be relevant, unless she is also a culprit doing things behind the scenes).

For now, I think I need to reach a definitive answer as to wheter Nanjo is innocent or not, since so many things rely on him.

I looked at his statements. The only thing he does is confirm people's deaths. The only exception is that he confirms the mansion is sealed. If I have a way to prove the mansion isn't sealed, then he is automatically a culprit since he is lying. I will now investigate that subject.

Just finished episode 4. It had the highest highs and the lowest lows but I think it was the best out of all 4 episodes so far.

I got caught up in a different area. It's possible that Kanon is not dead, is a suspect and lied about Genji's death (this opens the door to Genji being another culprit working behind the scenes). Kanon says that he and Nanjo confirmed Genji's death, but Nanjo never specifically confirms it, he only says no one could make a wrong diagnosis. I'm not quite sure what the repercussions are yet. This development would allow both Nanjo and Battler to remain innocents, since technically Nanjo never lied about Genji's death, he never even made a statement. I think this area has value, but I've hit the same roadblock in being unable to confirm if Nanjo is innocent or not.

I think I need to look into the keys to figure out if the mansion is actually sealed or not. A master key should be able to open the front and back doors to the mansion. I will now review who is making statements about destroyed keys. Natsuhi: destroyed Genji's key. Gohda: destroyed Shannon's key. Bernkastel's red truth: Kanon's key is the same as destroyed. Gohda and Kumasawa's keys: declared as the last keys that exist by Battler.) Suddenly this is really bad for Battler. Either Natsuhi (no evidence she is a culprit) or Gohda (not evidence he is a culprit - though if he was, a lot of things get easier, I think it's worth considering) lied about destroying the key, or Battler is lying. So, we have two unaccounted for keys as they were never declared destroyed. Nevermind. George bails him out by saying that the guesthouse was completely locked up right before (just didn't pay it attention until now). It's still possible for Battler to be truthful, as well as Gohda and Natsuhi because right now, George is already a critical suspect to me. Red truth establishes that room can be unlocked from within.

I am reviewing Natsuhi and Krauss's murder. If I believe that Jessica is a culprit, then this locked room falls apart instantly because she is the one who "confirms" the windows were locked. This lets all the servants be truthful in their declaration that they all had alibis for one another. It would mean this isn't isn't a locked room at all, and the servants are just being suspected because they have keys. This gives me an idea. I'm going to re-read the entire mystery from start to finish with my theory of Maria, George and Jessica being culprits and see if everything is explained this way.

Gohda allows the first set of murders with his key. The second is allowed by Jessica's lie about the windows while Gohda remains in the group. Kanon's and Shannon's aren't locked rooms. In my mind, it can be anyone other than George, who did it among my suspects is irrelevant. I don't believe I need to concern myself with who actually committed which killings to reach a solution. The third would be Gohda pretending to be dead (he is confirmed dead by suspect Nanjo and Jessica) and Kumasawa is truly killed (though she could be faking too, there's no reason why not, right?) and the final twilight, Jessica, is also fake since she's in on it since the start. I can't really argue against it, other than it just doesn't feel right that the entire thing would be based off the same trick of playing of living people as dead. I'm not done re-reading the entire thing. Getting back to it now.

Wait a minute, I got tunnel visioned on the window part, but Jessica says "I found that the windows and -doors- were all locked, making it a locked room." What "doors" is she talking about? The main door? Are there doors to other rooms in Natsuhi's room? If so, then okay, it's a fake locked room built around Jessica's statement but... I really don't understand the sentence. Okay. That confusing statement about doors from Jessica, or the fact the door just wasn't locked at all. Shannon and Gohda vouch that the door was locked. They could be lying culprits. I've chosen to abandon the idea that Natsuhi killed Krauss then pretended to be dead (confirmed by lying Nanjo), because Bern says in read that the seals will never be broken. You can say they'll never be broken because Natsuhi sits in the room until the game ends, but frankly, to me it means that they will "never", ever be broken. If Natsuhi leaves a few days after the day is over, then the seal will be broken.

Third murder. I think I just spotted something critical that could determine if Gohda is in on it or not. He says "not one of us has an alibi". This is challenged later when Jessica claims that George has an alibi. At this point, Jessica or Gohda has to be lying, they are saying contradictory statements. They could both be culprits, or either of them could be innocents. Ironically, Jessica could actually be telling the truth as a culprit, which would mean that Gohda is a culprit as well. Nope. I scrolled down. I believe Battler is innocent still (because I haven't seen a reason otherwise yet). His statement dooms Gohda. He confirms what Jessica says about George having an alibi by saying "anyone could have killed her besides George-aniki". Therefore Battler, as an innocent, confirms the truth that the culprit Jessica says, which dooms Gohda. He's in on it. However, it opens the door to Battler lying, which is the first time I'm forced to acknowledge that Battler's statement could actually be false. I will keep this in mind for the rest.

Okay, here it is. It's basically a slightly cleaned-up draft. You'll be able to see some things I considered and dropped. I'll copy the text of my final theory here if you want to read it on here instead. I thought it over and could not find an error in it, only some logical stretches. But I don't really believe I got it, because the last 3 are all explained with the same "gimmick". Oh well. Time to go check the answer, my head hurts.

1st twilight:
Someone (George? can only be one person according to red text) kills all six and hides in the room. Evidence: liar George lies about no one hiding, breaks the locked room. If that is wrong, it can also be explained by Gohda, who becomes a key suspect later, simply using his master key to lock the door after the deed is done.

2nd twilight:
Someone (Jessica and Nanjo?), but not a servant kills Natsuhi and Krauss then leaves the room unlocked. The servant's alibi is preserved, they really were together the entire time. Gohda arrives first (he is the first to make a statement). He claims the door is/was locked but is lying. He either locks it quickly before anyone notices, or takes a gamble that the next person, Shannon, will simply take his word for it and unlock it without confirming if it was actually locked. This allows Shannon to say she unlocked the door without lying, maintaining her innocence.

4th twilight:
Since anyone but George could have done the crime here, Maria kills Shannon and Kanon. Also, here Gohda dooms himself with an unnecessary statement about no one having an alibi, which is disproved not long after by the innocent Battler and the culprit Jessica, though we already suspected Gohda because of the second killing.

5th and 6th twilights:
Gohda kills Kumasawa then pretends to be dead. His death is confirmed by liars Nanjo and Jessica but he is quite alive.

7th twilight:
Nanjo is not killed. He is faking like Gohda. Confirmed by trio of liars Jessica, George and Maria.

8th twilight:
Jessica is not killed. "death" is confirmed by liars George and Maria. Battler is the only one who doesn't lie here, which makes him the only innocent to survive until the end of the game.

Culprits and who they killed (it is not important to know who killed who, all that is important is to have at least one kill per culprit as it is required to kill to be a culprit. We have 2 restrictions. George can't kill Shannon because of innocent Battler's claim, and the first six must all be killed by the same person, confirmed by Bern's red)

Okay, well I'm not done reading the episode, but I was able to see my answer as being incorrect. I tried a little bit but after sinking in so much time in my answer I just didn't have the energy to keep going. I just looked up the answer after a few weak guesses. I just started the part where it seems like Erika and Eva are going to argue. I saw the hints the game gave me about the narrator. I'm not trying to be a sore loser, I'm not upset or anything, though of course I'm disappointed I didn't get it, but it seems like I drastically over-thought it. For Jessica's body for example, it says "her gruesome body was on the ground" or something like that. Can't I argue that it's true that her gruesome body is there, but it doesn't mean she's dead? There is a fact that her body is there and it's gruesome. I can think of ways of that being true, but her also not being dead. It could be an elaborate set-up with make-up, a mask and a bunch of fake blood. It's not like we have concrete details. It could be horrible wounds, but not lethal. I'm sure I could think of other things with time. I also spotted some things that didn't make too much sense and sort of contradict some of the purple statements. It feels kind of cheap that ultimately it was just a spot the truth in the narration and build everything around that kind of game, but, I did enjoy the process of thinking out my theory and looking for facts, so I had fun anyway. I really gave it my all at playing out the scenarios in my head and I'm content in the fact I put in the effort, even if I was way off from the real answer.

This is dumb. So a human can manipulate the red truth by drowning out a witch with noise? I understand that Bernkastel just stopped talking as a response to Ange screaming, but then doesn't that just mean that she lied with the red? This is very contrived. This is all truth "of a sort"? What do you mean? It's truth or not?

Also, this is a good time to say it but Bernkastel's voice is absolutely delightful to listen to. She has the best voice in the game bar none.

I've finally finished Umineko, not everything makes sense to me but most of it does I think, however what really happened on Rokkenjima? I believe episode 7's tea party is what really happened right? And then Battler and Eva escaped. However I never really understood what is going on with Yasu/Beatrice/Shannon, maybe I should read the manga?

Magic is not real, everything you see isn't really happening and is just a story written within a story.
Yasu is the incest baby of Kinzo and Beatrice the second, the daughter of Beatrice Castgonli and Kinzo
Beatrice the first and Kinzo met in the military on the old military base on rokkenjima.
Beatrice was the daughter of an Italian Facist who came to the island on a sub carrying 500 lbs of gold printed with only half of the wing of a Italian eagle due to an error which Kinzo uses as the ushiromiya logo.
Kinzo gets the Italians and Japanese to kill each other and makes it so him and Beatrice are the sole survivors
He takes Beatrice to a local Doctor named Nanjo where they become close friends
Kinzo buys the island and builds two mansions on it one for his wife and kids and one for Beatrice who he is madly in love with.
Beatrice the first dies in childbirth to Beatrice the second.
Beatrice the second looks exactly Beatrice the first which makes kinzo believes she used magic to reincarnate herself which plunges him deep into the occult and magic
After raping Beatrice the second and having her give birth to Yasu (Beatrice the golden witch/Kanon/Shannon) Beatrice the second is killed by Rosa after sneaking her out where she falls off a cliff and brutally killed.
Natsuhi is given Yasu to raise since she has been unable to give Krauss a child, where she then proceeds to push her and a maid off a cliff out of hatred for being forced to raise the baby.
Yasu survives but receives terrible damage to her lower abdomen, destroying the reproductive system, where emergency surgery is performed by nanjo.
Genji and Nanjo keeps Yasu survival a secert out of fear of kinzo raping her again.
Yasu is raised in an orphanage untill she's taken in as a servernt by the family when she was 6.
Yasu is eventually told the truth about her past and family by Genji where she becomes the new head of the family.
Kinzo is actually dead and has been dead for at least 2 years before the family conference begins
Yasu plans on killing the entire family since she's so mentally fucked about her gender since she doesn't know what she is.
She is madly in love with Battler and is unable to move on from him despite dating and getting engaged to George and dated Jessica as Kanon, and prepares to kill the entire family to be with him.
Sets up the mystery and gives the family a chance to solve it and gain the fortune.
The parents solve it and beat her riddle where she gives up and allows the parents the wealth.
It is then the true culprits are revealed where Kyrie and Rudolf kill the other parents except Eva and leave to go kill the rest of the kids/Servents.
Everyone is killed except Battler, Eva, and Yasu.
Battler finds Yasu bleeding out with the gold and she leads him to the hidden cave entrance with a boat waiting to take him away
Battler remembers his promise and carry yasu with him telling her he's going to kidnap her away
They leave the island together only for Yasu to tie a gold bar to her ankle and jump off the boat to kill herself
Battler jumps in after her and tries to save her only to pass out and float to the surface
Battler awakens with amnesia and is hit by a car driven by a woman named ikkuko.
She is a novelst who helps him recover in her mansion and helps him recover his memory by writing mysteries about the murders and what happen on rokkenjima
Battler eventurally remembers what and who he is but chooses not to go meet his little sister ange
He lives with Ikkuko for about 30 years
Finally meets his little sister and apologizes for leaving her for so long
