The bigger question is why would the Lunarians make such an overt move? Strength of faith is a localized thing. When Kanako talked about Post symposium she was inherently speaking of Japan, a famously atheistic nation. That is not true for the rest of the world, not to the extent of nipland. I'd argue that the amount of faith hasn't gone down since preindustrial times on general. One could say that even prior most people did live their lives without being devot much like now.
I will admit that those people nowadays do not go to church and their faith is poor if there at all, but when you talk of billions worshipping through unified religion like the catholics, orthodox, jews, Muslims, and more the amount of faith has only grown with the population.
Him splitting as a being is interesting but not exactly likely given it is the same being just worshipped differently, there is no loss of identity unless you consider Hindu bastardization of the Abrahamic God to be separate entity, which it may well be. I do like the idea of angels being a form of polytheism in terms of story telling like that, since some angels did have specific jobs like making war and what not. Though it is a bit loose it makes for an interesting narrative when you combine it with saints and other devot prophets since guiding and empowering them is what they do normally.

Touhou canon associates death with impurity, but the concept itself is one of Shintoism's pillars (the main religion in Gensokyo and the Moon, whose gods are summoned by Yorihime). The inhabitants of pure lands aren't immortal per se, but they age considerably slower (see Youmu, her relative, and every Lunarian we know). Udonge trees exist on the Moon so that the impurity they fear can be easily detected. It's putting two and two together, really.

The sisters can't be truly immortal because the Hourai Elixir still has an effect on the Lunarians that drink it. Their extended lifespans have more to do with the characteristics of a pure land.

Regarding death, remember early on in the thread when we were discussing the fisher who ended up in the moon? Eirin suggested killing him as the most viable option, which means murder doesn't affect purity too much. Granted, one could assume she was referring of more indirect ways such as having some moon rabbit execute him.
And with life, one could assume that the current Lunarians are the same ones lord Tsukoyomi brought to the moon in the first place and they have just remained alive all this time, however, we know Toyohime had a son, giving birth; making new life. Granted, again, we could assume the son was born before the moon.
None of my points seem too strong on their own, but Touhou is a franchise in which we shouldn't take at face value everything characters say as they could be empty boasts or straight up lies, so it fits if the Lunarian's ever strict way of life is also just a lie to appear more grand.
My point is, we shouldn't trust what Toyohime says outright and the true answer is probably more nuanced Not like ZUN is ever gonna expand on it.

The sisters are bar none the most wrongly represented characters in the whole fandom.
Their entire conflict in SSiB is that they're worried other Lunarians are suspicious of them for being too nice, that's why they can't contact Eirin directly. I would actually argue the opposite that statement is said by Toyohime who is biased and merely speculating. SSiB and by extension CiLR are, at the barest of summaries, about Yukari proving to Eirin she isn't as almighty she thinks she is, watch the entire final scene of the brain of the moon quaking in her boots at the realization she had been played, so my own interpretation is that she didn't have a master plan or a test, she did the alternative because it was clear the sister would not kill him, the Toyo retroactively added further meaning to the situation. But that's the way I understood the story.
And that still leaves the nephew question of how he came to be without being life - to be fair, there are a million ways he could have been born without being alive by standards means, roll a wheel: Immaculate conception, unorthodox birthing a la Athena, Eirin's shady new drug, and so many more.

Usually power creep happens because of this but in 2hus case the reverse seems to be happening. With characters inexplicably getting dumber and weaker and not using abilities that they were previously established as being able to use. It's horrifying and its shitty. Sounds like you just hate some named characters because of other anons. Also just because characters have low points doesn't mean that they're overall weak or shit or that they aren't as powerful as presented. For example, Goku himself died of a heart attack in one timeline and can get hurt by rocks if you throw them hard enough while he isnt looking. So should we put him in the 55 year old overweight American tier because of a few set backs he had? Just ignore everything he has ever done and ignore canon descriptions of his powers? The figure she's inspired by, Toyotama-hime, gave birth to a son but because her husband Hoori peeked on her during childbirth and saw that her real form was that of a monstrous sea dragon/shark/crocodile/whatever, so she fucked off back home to her dad's Watatsumi's undersea palace and never came out, instead sending her sister Tamayori-hime to raise the child (named Ugayafukiaezu), who would end up marrying him later on, giving birth to Jimmu, who would become the first emperor of Japan.
