I wrote a paragraph last thread abt why I think Ange never getting married was good for the narrative but it's only a part of a bigger whole on why I love Ange so much, she's a brilliant parallel to Sayo. Sayo is the cat in the box that died and Ange is the cat that eventually lived. Ange's journey throughout Umineko really moved me, and her message of forgiveness and moving forward while believing in the love you hold for the people you care about is very powerful. Umineko isn't flawless. There's occasional issues with pacing and the potential confusion caused by things introduced in the second episode, and while it never bothered me, it did bother a decent amount of people.

I remember similarly feeling that a big chunk of Episode 4 sucked because Angie's story just kept going on and on.

I remember feeling bad for Maria, but I faintly remember (can't confirm) also wanted to fast-forward through her talking with toys / Sakutarou.
And Episode 5 with Featherine in real life / Newborn Beatrice also talking about butterflies and stuff, again the story just crashed face-first into a building and killed all momentum.


Any of the male characters can keep the story going, it just gets boring when it comes to girls in Umineko, I even deeply enjoyed Ep 1 talk about economics, the inheritance and embezzlement etc.. at the Ushiromiya dinner, in some way it was engaging to know the current dynamics and situation of the characters instead of them acting all schizo and depressive.

I don't know how you can read over a million words of a philosophical text and come to this conclusion. WTC puts a lot of focus on women's problems and struggles and it does so really well, it's always been kind of insane to me that Umineko was written mostly by a guy. Not caring for Ange's story when she is the main subject of Umineko and the whole story is about her learning to move on by believing in love, Maria's dialogue with her toys (Which really makes it clear to you and teaches you what magic really is) and Sayo's inner conflict or any of the other struggles Rosa, Eva, or hell, even Kasumi go through, just sounds to me like you couldn't empathize with any of their stituations and the novel's motto is quite literally ''Without love, it cannot be seen''. Umineko isn't for everyone so fair enough if you didn't like it much, but reading it all and writing it off as some cheap shoujo is insane to me

I'd have felt the same for Sayo's story even if we cut in half all her ramblings with Beatrice in the first episodes, talking about love and... A mirror? I don't even remember what they were talking about for so long. Also Shannon and Kanon. But it seemed to go on forever, some philosophical stuff while I'm waiting to get back to the Ushiromiya or for them to say something that doesn't sound like a riddle.
Actually their talk about love is the one I remember because I could understand it, Kanon was conflicted with Jessica and Shannon talked about it, that much was clear. But the other dialogues I forgot because I couldn't comprehend or care what she was mumbling for 30 minutes or so.
Also Beatrice with no memories and Featherine. I guess I don't like that kind of philosophy? Seems like seeing 2 characters debate the meaning of life and not in a fun way.

Umineko's message is that there isn't just a single truth or meaning behind everything and that believing that we can assign a single meaning to something and have that be automatically correct is an erroneous mindset, and this applies to it's ''love'' aspect as well. There are things certain characters do that are unforgivable but it is never their sole defining trait and one needs to see all of that (Both with and without love) in order to accept that the world isn't black and white. If you try to looks at things solely through one lens you will miss out on the meaning behind the things people do and you will never come to an understanding of the world around you. Please tell me how you think about it because is very hard for me to imagine anyone that actually read the whole vn had all of this go over their head.

Umineko's themes (Like most well-written texts) are self-demonstrating; It presents its philosophy, its philosophy of how belief functions, how it truly works and that despite how powerful truth is, love will always be stronger. It shows you its way of viewing the world, shows how one can come to its conclusion and by applying it, shows you how it drastically changes your view of its world and characters. I know you said this may sound like semantics but even if you may not consider Umineko a philosophical ''text'', it very much is philosophical literature to me, even if it may not present itself like that at times. It's all about the philosophy of what you believe in and how that affects your reality and view of the world.
