Fuck man I still have some weight to lose and planned on having this to help motivate me but now it's making me wanna give up on kigging altogether now that I know I absolutely need to spend upwards of 500 on the mask alone for anything acceptable looking. It's not like I can't afford that but that's a lot to sink into a hobby where realistically I might never even be able to wear it out in public- and if I do it would be once a year max ;_;

Is it actually viable to attend a con solo in kig? I know people usually have someone there due to the limited vision, but I also have no friends IRL that would be cool enough with the idea of kig to attend with. Was thinking about going out in public for the first time at a spring con in my country.

Alternatively, you could hire a cosplay photographer. I’ve seen ones at cons that follow people around and carry their stuff for them. You’d also get some high quality photos from them too.

The mask itself doesn't look that bad, the wig however... It's not that the wig is inherently bad, it just doesn't look like the character at all, it's the wrong colour for a start, and it lacks a lot of shape and details to it too. You might be able to get the wig done up by someone else though, and it might look alright with the complete outfit put together.

Don't let it discourage you from kigging altogether, anon. It's a decent first mask, and there's definitely a lot worse ones out there. As you get more into the hobby you'll be able to justify buying more expensive and better masks. Keep to your weight loss routine and don't give up, you'll be a beautiful kigurumi in the near future.

Unfortunate, but now you know to do more research before buying a mask. That being said, this would be a good opportunity to use this as a placeholder mask to allow you to practice solo photography while in kig, as well as other things like experimenting with padding and wig care. Even if you don't post any pictures publicly with it, it will still be a great learning experience for when you're ready to "debut" with a mask you're happier with.
