I first got into it by reading some Nakige (key titles, Ef). Then delved into some sci fi like Steins Gate, Chaos Head and Muv Luv. And then got into moege by reading Majikoi, Hello good bye and Nekopara.
Honestly, I don't know exactly what I'm looking for but it certainly hook my interest in reading VNs over playing FPS/RPGs.
But if you were to ask what I'm interested in the most, Nakige and plot would be my current picks with Moege being the second
