I don’t know about writers but you see this kind of thing with mobile games sometimes. There are Japanese companies that make VNs primarily or only for English speaking audiences, sometimes without releasing a Japanese version at all.
This sent me down a rabbit hole in trying to see if these were repackaged versions of games that had been translated but I can’t find references to any original, even on the JP wikis for the companies. Only English versions were released in some cases.
Every company I’ve come across that releases these sorts of games does through by a ‘Story App’, you download one app for the company and you access every game through it, which is ostensibly free but in reality paywalled.
It looks like they are usually otome but there’s at least one of these apps
with a male target demographic, see https://vndb.org/v47414 and other games by the same developer.
I guess they are mostly targeted at the same type of person who’d be drawn in by an AI girlfriend app or similar, these games tend to be advertised similarly.

Yes but it's all-ages. The original White Album is 18+, but some other anon detailed his miserable experience with it a few threads ago to the point where he dropped it so I decided to just play the steam version remake that someone uploaded instead. I believe the map movement in the original is completely RNG which is indeed something I never want to deal with. In the remake version, it tells you what characters are at what location beforehand so it's easy.

Don't do it. Everyone I know who read Al Azif first never read the other routes. Al Azif should come last also for sequel reasons. I'd start with Ruri's route since she's good too and Leica is the worst heroine.

The remake's new content isn't worth it btw. All of the HCGs are removed and only substituted with a few others. They also censored pantyshot CGs with longer skirts, blurs and in other ways. All of the "new content" are a few pointless and short all-ages replacement scenes that aren't better. The main draw of this version are new videos, animations and functional full voice although an anon once fixed the broken voice patch for the original a few years ago. I don't know if he uploaded it. Other than these minor things there's nothing of value to the all-ages version, you miss out on all the H. I'd only recommend the all-ages port if you're against H. Demonbane was originally made with it. The PS2 version is just effects stuff.

That's what I did. Demonbane route order is honestly super debatable because of the way the game is structured. Al's route is indisputably the best (also best girl by a mile). So because of the repeated content between routes, I get why people recommend you read her route first so you get everything fresh. But then again because of the multi-route mystery thing, you could argue that Ruri should be read first. Leica is a weird outlier imo and can be saved for last regardless of what you do. So I guess it boils down to if you think the Ruri -> Al route connection/progression is important enough. I personally would say "no not really', but maybe not everyone would agree.

It's one of the issues of multi route mystery games. They split too early or badly.

In my opinion multi route mystery should only be used if every route ends up unique. After the common route split there should be a 100% new scenario. Even better if it focuses on different locations and characters. Some do that but botch it when they have to acknowledge the plot twists from other routes, causing repetition. Better tie everything together in a final true route.

I agree. I'm technically of the opinion recommended route orders should be ignored and done in the order one wants. But when someone asks for one it's different. The main reason I said to read Al later isn't even because of my Ruri bias or the sequel. It's bcause over the years I've seen at least a dozen anons starting and dropping Demonbane after Al's route. It's the same with Aeka's route in YKK. If you read the whole VN anyway then start with Al or Aeka for all I care. But if you're one of those people who drops it after that 1 route then please don't start with them. That's my take on it.

A solution to the route repetition could be to not read route after route directly. Taking a break for something else and then reading the next Demonbane route with minimal manual skipping should work.
