Finished vol1 Story is kinda basic, ex-mercenary wanting to be a magic teacher and enroll at a magic school. Some humor because he's this super powerful swordsman mercernary and stand out from the rest. The cast is your typical bunch: the redhead and hot blooded princess, the tsundere (who kisses the MC, but it seems like nobody cares? Probably because of the situation, but whatever), the just a bit rebellious friend, and the 'normal' healer. Plot is about the MC who is actually a puppet and will learn to be human, killing is bad, etc. Like I said, it's cliché for now, but not a pain to read.

I just finished SAOAGGO volume 13,the 5th squad jam conclusion,and I'm sad lads. It features a special afterword of the characters interacting and says The End instead of the author talking or even being in character as the novelist. I realize there's a problem, that the timeline is starting to butt-up against the start of Unital Ring in the mainline SAO novels,but I hope Reki finishes soon and resolves it in a way that GGO can resume and KS and KK can finish SAOAGGO in the manner they really want.

Might be translation but Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life goes downhill quite a bit in the third book.

Normally wouldn't mention this because popcorn light novels running out of steam is nothing new but it actually feels less edited in vol 3. As if the author's struggling to hit a word count and added a bunch of rambling to get there.
Found it pretty odd.

I had a realization that I only read action-oriented stuff with high amounts of autism. So I figured I'd change it up a bit, try a lighthearted romcom, and randomly picked up ちっちゃくてかわいい先輩が大好きなので一日三回照れさせたい which seemed to fit the bill. Caught up with the series (only 4 volumes so far) and it was overall a nice, enjoyable read. I don't really read much like this, but the gimmick is basically that MC says some pretty ridiculous いちゃいちゃ type stuff with a straight face to unintentionally embarrass the main girl. Solid enough for me anyway. The progress is obviously glacially slow, but it's not actually zero. Seems like the author has a pretty slow release schedule so who knows when the next part will come out. Anyways, it was a nice change of pace for me.

it wasn't so much a big change as it is a slow degradation, like most "comfy" LNs the first 2-5 volumes involve the first 1-2 arcs and that's stuff the author has likely been planning for years, so it's pretty well paced and wraps up with a neat bow
eventually at some point the story starts the shift to an episodic journey to relax to and like i said before i can't take more than one of those at a time
it's not like it's shit, but that it feels slow as hell or even mostly filler while not really giving me much i like on top of the dykeshit made me lose interest even if the initial volumes were something i liked

Yeah, it's excellent. The 4th volume sure will be a ride with the conflict between Ushio and his sister coming into the fore. Also very interested if Sakuma's sister will get a plot-thread of her own, her brief interactions with Sakuma and Ushio are pretty cute and it seems like there could be a plot written with her in a more major role. Hell, maybe she'll become some sort of leverage in the 4th book who knows. Also I have a feeling that it might end with like 5th or 6th book which could be ideal, really want this series to end on the top.

筺底のエルピス is fantastic SF series I have only ever seen one person talking about in the anglo-sphere which is a bloody shame considering how wild it is and how far the author is willing to go with the SF shenanigans and flipping the world on its head.

Completed 王国へ続く道, that was fucking great. Technically an r18 senki but instead of being the usual expansive epic feels more like an autobiography. The sex parts are natural enough to give the story flavor but not take over it, and diverse enough that I read through all of them without getting bored, which is rare for me. More than anything, the protag is probably the best 豪傑 character among anything I ever read. 筺底のエルピス - Unfinished, the author is currently writing final two books (8th and 9th). Sci-fi about world people becoming possessed by being from different dimensions and becoming violent. There is an organization that fights and keeps the whole thing a secret, MC is part of this organization. The author builds an overtly complicated SF setting with detailed procedures how the "demons" are dealt with, the super-powers people have to fight them are based and follow strict physical and chemica lrules and concepts, fights usually last ten seconds but are written to utmost details so those ten seconds take like 50 pages of text. And the world itself is sort of the main point of the books to a point. Each book ends with you and characters learning more about the functioning of the world that puts everything up to that point on its head. And boy the lengths the author is willing to go to to realize his intent - can be pretty crazy and brutal at times. The less concrete things you know about the plot the better.

If you really want to try your hand at learning japanese faster and more effectively, try translating song lyrics for yourself.
They are the equivalent of a torture training arc, easy to fuck up but succeed and you will come out of it every time a gigachad with tons of new vocab (in kanji, lingo, phrasing, innuendos, cultural memes AND wordplay) and better at reading the context.
They are also better than immersion through anime, because anime especially with jp subs is explicitly designed to be easily comprehensible, song lyrics don't give a shit about you and will make you sink or swim, especially if you commit the painful mistake of getting into fast paced music genres.

I don't know about everyone else but I have this where if I pick up a series, I must read it all the way to catch up. Nothing inbetween. So for a 20+ volume series, that's a pretty daunting task to stick to the same genre with no switchups or breaks.

You will realize, upon simple scrutiny, none of the aforementioned categories require you to sit still inside of a room and contemplate the ravings of an alcoholic Japanese and his thoughts, miniaturized, over 20, 30 and some cases 40+ volumes nor are the aforementioned consummate EXPLICITLY with the type of person inclined to engage his hobbies primarily without, if you will, the luxury of dissent with others.
The fact of the matter is, after all, that LNs --as I'm sure you'll come to realize, if you haven't already-- are geared to a very, very specific class of people, demanding firstly that you:
A) Have no trouble spending hours and hours on end reading something without any music or whatever in the background [ Not many can do it these days ]
B) Are content with musing on matters on your own [ Don't mistake something like this general as a place for discussing anything, all that happens here is sharing the most superficial of thoughts and maybe a recommendation or three ]
C) Can visualize things well. Seriously, some fight scenes are NEARLY 60 PAGES OF JUST TEXTUAL DESCRIPTIONS of people in constant motion, fighting. 60 pages. If you can't visualize what's going on and if such things -common as they are- aren't rapt enough to garner your attention, then JUST STOP.
D) Are patient. I'm not fucking talking about VNs with the 'wait for 20 hours' because that just doesn't happen. Just hearing voices is a fortunate icebreaker as you 'wait' for those first 20 hours to transpire but with LNs, there is no such thing.
I sometimes had to have read 500-450+ page LNs --Extremely common now, look around-- and go 16 volumes in to get around the initiation of 'true kino' and believe me, the best of LNs are GREATER than the best of EVERYTHING else.

--And so, of course, LN fans are detested like scum. What sort of fucking bastard spends his weekend staring at a veritable ocean of words on a screen, not sparing a moment for anything else, for 20+ hours?
There's no 'cool' factor in this. There's no 'blogposting' in this. There's nothing. To everyone, you're reading 'anime cliches' and it's self-explanatory how much of a RETARD you are, just off of that.

Best thing is, if you aren't reading an LN raw, as opposed to a VN with it being voiced and all, you're simply setting yourself up for fuckery.

in other words just get more vocab, even for actual japanese readers a few of the more complex wordplay is subtle to the point of "when you see it you will shit bricks" so don't feel too bad about not catching them on a first read
