Both are easy and will teach you all of the relevant language quickly. I'd argue JRPGs are better, due to their density and the fact that they literally force you to engage with the language to understand the mechanics of the game. The only real con is a lack of voiced dialogue, but most modern JRPGs don't have the issue anymore.

In terms of text volume, nothing beats an MMO. They're a nightmare to read in your own language, let alone Japanese.
As far good JRPGs, it depends if you want something modern or something more old school. The Super Mario RPG remake is great if you want something really easy to read and play through. The game's really short on top of that. The Star Ocean 2 remake is also great and not too long. It has dialogue that I would call "normal."
If you're looking for something in 3D that's more straightforward, then .Hack G.U. is great in terms of cutscenes. It's got a good amount of dialogue and a lot of it is voiced and very cinematic. It's also got a lot of supplementary reading that does a good job of introducing how people talk on the internet.
If you're in the mood for something retro and like obscure gems, then I'd also recommend you emulate the Black/Matrix games. It has a good amount of voice acting for a game of its time. Emulate the Dreamcast version of the first one (Black/Matrix AD) if you can.
Apart from those, really any of the mainstream ones (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Breath of Fire, etc.) are all great to play. There's too many good ones to list, honestly.

Yokai Watch is a great choice is you want something fun and easy. Persona 4 will take you forever, but probably has just about every single phrase you could ever need as a learner. It might take forever, but it's worth it.
