I wonder about the end goal of Kanako reinventing herself as a god of technological progress. She's trying to build up her shrine and base of faith by creating infustructure from the ground up and create some of the comforts she'd grown accustomed too during her life in the outside world, but that will only have the same effect as it did in the outside world.
It is a smart move, to move Gensokyo forward with yourself as the head, but this will inherently change Gensokyo by destroying the Youkais position. Kanako denies this of course and thinks it can be controlled, but whether she's able to control the wave or merely rides it the results may will beyond what she's expected.

To an extent. It's known that Moriya shrine has a lot of outside world things already. I don't think it would be difficult to simply provide electricity for themselves with nuclear fusion and keep it to themselves entirely or promote close-mindedness by providing such things and prevent the humans from looking into what is actually behind it. I think her end goal is going beyond Gensokyo and returning to the outside world in a reliable fashion.

I disagree. The way I see it, she is just trying to ensure her future by avoiding the seen consequences of technology. By tying her identity to technology, she in a sense immortalizes herself, at least in the native population of Gensokyo. Even far in the future if something were to happen that would upset the power balance of Gensokyo and the humans develop as the rest of the world has, Kanako would be the icon of progress and would remain in the populations' perception through either myth or just having projects and the like named after her.
A little more of a stretch, she could also provide some benefits not strictly tied to reality. Of course, I doubt that is viable otherwise we would still be living in a world of the supernatural. As much as I love her, I doubt she's the most clever god ever.

I think if it was a real danger Yukari would have gapped her out already. Even today people still believe in modern age youkai, its just that the Gensokyo ones are the old and forgotten ones that got replaced by urban legends.

Our only perspective is the Japanese one insofar as that goes, the only modern youkai we see are Nue and Mamizou who found ways to adapt. Across the ocean its very possible that there are still youkai considering how spiritual and superstitious people still are even in the west outside western Europe.

The only issue is going back to that specieless youkai getting snubbed in this deal. By removing fear and some superstion, like how the yamabiko are dying out cause the villagers stopped believing that echos in the mountain are all their work, would cause the fear of a lot of them to fade and thus kill some off.
However, species like the tengu, kappa, hell ravens, and oni would be uplifted as a part of the foundations of human belief in their new technological life. As all those would play a part in maintaining the power and other future infustructure.
Kanako will ride the wave as she stated herself in uplifting herself and being able to return to the outside world as she pleases to reap the benefits of becoming the omnimessiah, but theres no doubt that even the lazy villagers would lose some of their superstitious beliefs and replace them with new ones.
Its a good plan for Kanako, but one inherently dangerous without many precautions taken.

I certainly agree. It is risky, even for her, but for me, I want to believe in her plan. I'd also support Kanako at the cost of everything else. I like Gensokyo, but I love Kanako, and also Sanae and Suwako.
The way I see it, even Gensokyo isn't immune to progress. For instance, we have the moonies selling medicines to the villagers. While relatively innocent and just an attempt to support the world they live in, it is still progress, a step closer to a world of humanity. It may take a long time to get there, but I'd like to support Kanako past that critical point of progress.
