I always got the impression he was partially making the games as a form of personal art, so as long as he's satisfied with the product he's made under the self imposed time limit he doesn't really mind what he makes.
He does compare the games something to a personal journal.
That's not to say I don't have problems with how he handles touhou, I would prefer offical localization for the windows games to justify the 15$ steam price tag, for him to take for times working on the games, and for him try to work toward an "end" state for the touhou story, some resolution before he retires would be nice.

For real, I think Yuugi is a pretty unappealing character, to be fair I never bothered to look more on her personality aside from the canon/fanon stuff that gets fleshed-out. Big and muscular women just don't do anything for me and I've never been a huge fan of her design (aside from the Alphes promo art, that's pretty gorgeous) I see people saying she's unpopular but I feel like I see her everywhere.

Despite being the biggest powerhouse in the series, she seems pretty humble. Maybe a bit impulsive, but she always holds back, the kind of person to bring herself down to your level without any fuss. None of that cackling psycho bullshit you'd get with Flan or that ooh so mysterious shtick you'd get from one the sages, Yuugi is simply mindful of her own power and respectful of people's strength and their efforts to get stronger. She's a lot like Yuuma I think, someone who looks like trouble on the outside but is actually pretty thoughtful. Really friendly and approachable too, ironically she's one the few youkai you have the least chance of dying to. Compared to so many others who would look down on you for being human or ruin your day for fun, it's no wonder so many Anons want to go out for drinks with her.

I like her for the same reason I like Yuuka. They are both strong people who use that power to do whatever the fuck they want, which is to say not much. Despite all their power they are simple people who only want to live their best lives. Whether it's just chilling drunk at a hot spring and getting into the occasional fight or enjoying the sights and sounds of a beautiful day, their only priorities in life are enjoying themselves. It may not be much of a reason to a lot of people but I find it relatable. If I had that kind of power I'd also use it to live a simple life that I find enjoyable and violently suppress people who try to disrupt that.

Yuugi and Yuuka are my favorites but why Yuugi edges out over Yuuka for me I don't know. I actually relate more with Yuuka since I'm not a competitive, social, or even particularly honest person like Yuugi, at least not without a couple of drinks, but maybe I like the parts of her that make her different. By using him as a point of reference Ran came to about 187 cm (i may need to recheck my math). I could see Yuugi trying to provoke her, albeit in the form of friendly banter, just so she could have an excuse to fight her and see if she really lives up to the hype.
