I have told this story plenty of times but I'll tell it again

As a kid, I made a thread on /g/ about something, I don't even remember what it was anymore, maybe it was making fun of mac users? whatever doesn't matter, anyways, as a kid I loved using reaction images more than anything else, so I included them in all of my posts

one guy disagreed with me, and instead of telling me to kill myself, he went to /trash/ and copied the archive link to posts with the same filename and images as one of my posts in the thread, it was a post where I was ERPing talking about how much I wanted old man dick in my ass

>Filename randomization isn't enough, you have to edit your images before you post them to thwart schizos that use file hash search.
Randomized files are unique, editing your images may make them unsearchable but it will still make them unique.
If the same image is being posted but with a unique hash each time then this is a clear indication that this image is posted by the same person who habitually edits their image. I've stalked at least one person using this method until they learned their lesson.
True anonymity come from copying other people's filenames and making sure your image isn't unique and that it has been posted by someone else other than you.
Also always post with multiple personalities, I can't stress how important is to never be consistent with your posts, that can be sometimes even more revealing than images.

The problem with this logic is that it goes from a 99% chance of being the same person to maybe 10%. I've got two thoughts here. The first is that more storage space needed means shorter times between storage upgrades and/or issues popping up, which is bad. And considering how it's the been in the top 5 fastest sites on the entire website since it's inception with the next fastest board that gets archived being 20th with 1/10th of the posts... that's a lotta storage space needed and used very quickly. And while you might have a point that it's me just taking a potshot at the end of the day even at the absolute best it brings no positives whatsoever to the archival process. You could say the same of any other board on there easily, but since we're on /jp/ I'm not going to say /jp/ is a waste of space, like how if you went on /fa/ they wouldn't say they're wasting the space but instead it was /cgl/ or /lit/ or whoever else.
The other thought? Yes, any proper member of this board should reach to find reasons to get mad at the retards who rape the catalog with more threads in a day than /jp/ used to have in two weeks. Pick your preferred logic to either laugh at or agree with since personally I've got no serious issues with them as a whole on this board, since the issues only arouse with that one specific thread that's been constantly leaking for years.
>>45265926
I mean no offense but it took me three or four times of reading this post until I got what you were saying, and I can't really give you a good answer there since I use the archive primarily for finding images or specific threads rather than people. There's pretty much nobody in any of the threads I check that has someone that should be illegitimatized on the basis of who they are rather than what they say, and the few times I do see people pop up it's usually stuff like the Ranfag who're known because of the types of images they post. But that's more of a general catalog thing, rather than a catalog general thing.

>> No.45266556

I get what you're saying but at the end of the day, short of warosumin straight up saying "yeah no this isn't sustainable" then it's nothing more than just unsubstantiated doomposting from a single-extended maintenance. Adding extra disks is a pretty normal aspect for archival sites and it's possible he'd been wanting to do this even before the implementation of /vt/.

If it becomes a normal thing or the guy running it expresses concern about it, then I'll worry, but right now I think it's just people looking for something to get mad at or to pin the blame on since it's our only real archive, and it is admittedly pretty inconvenient for it to be down this long.

Entitlement
Noun
2. Belief that one is deserving of or entitled to certain privileges

Someone in this thread has an entitlement, in the sense of the above definition, that they speak for the collective of this thread when expressing their personal opinion in individual posts.
Bitch and moan about your personal hills to die on all you want, but put words in my mouth for your sake and fuck you I will make the point that I'm not made as utterly miserable and obsessed with streamer talking-heads. They do not have that power over me as they do (You).
Like, does the mere sight of them cause you some sort of internal pain? If so, I assure you that is not normal or the intention of those posts.
It would be incredibly entitled for me to derail the conversation and enjoyment of others who give me no enjoyment - or worse - even find annoying - because of that alone - and that's what I see here. Unentitled responses would be like tolerating/ignoring what you don't want to engage in, or making a new space in the vision of "/jp/ but specifically without [things I don't like]."

Why are such anons unable to remove themselves from the collective forces of randos shooting the shit indifferent to their loathing?
They have no right, concern, or entitlement to the actions of vtuber enjoyers as retarded and bad as they might demean them, so makes no sense to give them rent in their head.

If they weren't intended to be dedicated, true.
Then that would raise the question of why the admin in control of their servers would willingly keep the service for that containment board for several years, outside of personal interest or interest in their community.

Is it really that wild to run a fuuka archiver on your end just for /jp/ so that you are dependent on the dude that willingly supports board you don't think they should?

you don't like what he's doing, make your own archive
but you won't, because you don't have the skill or the drive to do that. you just want to bitch about some unknowable boogeyman you've concocted in your head and assumed is the issue. no better than the /vt/ards you complain about

>So you're saying the archive should just go fuck itself and nuke everything since the guy running it decided to archive /vt/?
Nobody said this.
>I forget it's even on /jp/ most of the time
Threads sink multiple times faster than they used to because those faggots keep making threads and keep bumping threads to make new threads, if you somehow haven't noticed this then maybe you shouldn't be speaking on anything when you're clearly admitting you just keep your head down in your generals of choice. Opinion discarded.

Fair point. Vested interest is the wrong thing to say here, it's just a simple interest that's being questioned and in some cases mocked.

So again; why do you care?

>> No.45267213

I care significantly less once you changed vested interest to simple interest, actually.
That's reasonable.

I'm just disappointed in how many /jp/sies have grown into bitter old fags. The few Warosu threads that cropped up over the years never used to be like this and it's amazing how much is taken for granted nowadays. Some of you guys are no better than the /vt/ cancer you complain about in your eagerness to bring it up and turn threads into meta shit at every opportunity.

Glad to see we've cleared up the misunderstanding from me using the improper terms. Now we shall commence with the honorary making-up gay ERP session.
>>45267215
You're mistaken then. I'm not being bitter, I just don't really care about the person behind the service. I respect what they do but I'm that doesn't mean I'm bound to defend them when they make a choice I don't like or otherwise keep my mouth shut. It's also completely deluded you're comparing a single thread having an argument to something like the people who literally had to be dragged out of the board after destroying it. Calm down.

One day, all those archives will be wiped from existence and nothing you ever posted here would be recoverable ever again. I feel bad for all the people who wasted a good portion of their lives here.

On the other hand, the more I think about it however I have began to adopt a certain worldview that it is in fact a good thing these archives will be gone because the more we hold onto the past the less we are able to move into the future, there's also the added benefit that things like >>45258716 would never happen. Of course the majority of people here would disagree with me but one day it will happen and it's better to start accepting it now before it happens.

every two weeks the warosu database is uploaded to archive.org >>45260999
in each of these bi monthly backups, you have a compressed archive of each board's database, separated by board:
https://archive.org/download/warosu-database-backup-2023-11-15
the compressed size is actually really small, anyone has enough space to download them (whether you want to or not is the issue, given that there is almost certaintly some questionable material in them)
side note: you'll notice that /vt/ isn't even that much bigger than /biz/

anyway, the point is that it's all available right now and really easy to archive by anyone
