For some reason, I've noticed it's one of the few crossboard things that's pretty widely accepted, mostly because it's pretty ingrained into Japanese pop culture, it's a game, it has some anime and manga related to it, it has cute characters, there's porn of it, and there's that stupid mudkip meme.

On that subject then, I've never actually played Gold. I only owned Silver. What storyline differences are there?

They need to liven up the battle system already. I love pokemon to death and I want to play SS, but I'm not sure if I can sit through another 100+ hours of these boring back-and-forth, spam the same technique forever battles.
One easy thing they could do is just allow more than 4 moves to be equipped at a time. Or allow certain moves to be selectable based on conditions. Or limit breaks, or side-view battles, or just anything that's even a little different.
