Which is why I believe that any human who is serious about youkai fucking should also aspire to transcend humanity and become something that they truly can care about. Ironically, this loops back into the above regarding the implausibility of actually succeeding.

a person who has half the power as a high level youkai is more admirable if they got that through their own will rather than just having it bestowed by nature

a lot of humans in the village are pretty capable of taking a good chunk of youkai on their own, just not the more dangerous ones. its not really a rare thing

Admirable sure, but on a purely practical level they are still not as good.

I'll concede that being too comfortable with your natural gifts and coasting on it at its base level rather than trying to improve upon it is a youkai problem though. A one in a million human is better than most base level youkai.

You are probably right on that one. A lot of youkai just have wacky powers that wouldn't help them much against a trained human. I was thinking almost exclusively of the dangerous ones when I thought about this scenario.
