I love it. I love all of you people. I love how a simple flash card program is too much. You can’t handle memorizing a few words. You must constantly parade your idiocy like the lemmings you are. You have no argument, no reason, no basis for why you don’t want to use the program other than pure unadulterated laziness. You people are like sheep. The blind leading the blind. You use straw mans and anecdotes about how it “cripples” your “acquisition,” as if you had any argument to begin with.
Well, I’m sick of it. I’m sick of all of this. I’m done pretending like you people aren’t anything other than bunch of, and I’m sorry that I’m saying this, RETARDS!

So I was thinking about the rating phenomenon where 7 is average... something like:
Bad 1-6, average 7, good 8, great 9, perfect 10.
I think it's human nature.
We have more distinction to make about things we will consume than things we won't.
Like try rating the following food: a pile of vomit, horse turds, chicken Alfredo with so much salt you'll gag.
The rating is this: I won't eat any of this. Once it's in the "bad" zone it doesn't matter what number it gets is.
there is some nuance among things you will consume.
But only enough to fill like the top few slots of x/10.
But autism demands 10 because numerology.
And then from there people think 5 should be average because it's in the middle.
When an honest review should never rate anything 10 because that means perfect which is impossible. So that leaves just 4 valid slots.
Ebert and Siskel did something like this, 1 negative possibility (thumbs down) and 2 positive possibilities (1 thumb or 2 thumbs up)
They also did "See It/Skip It/Rent It" which is basically the same thing but kinda goes more towards answering the question the "on the fence" consumer wants answered.

Personally I like the binary rating scale the best, like steam. "Would you recommend this? Yes/no".
There are nuances that aren't captured with that, but also I don't think those nuances are captured well by a 1-10 scale either.
Thinking about it more.... Maybe reviewers that use the x out of 10 system actually aren't targeting the audience of people that are on the fence.
I think rotten tomatoes attempts to translate x/10 reviews to bad, good, and "certified fresh" but I'm not sure how accurate the conversion is.
I think it's kinda true that reviews themselves are a form of media for people to consume and how that influences people isn't always straightforward as "bad means don't buy it".
