I wanted to get that fig for a while. Although not my typical style, cosMo music means a lot to me and was my gateway to Vocaloid. And I don't really mind such gothic style to be honest, it has its charms as well and I like the theme in general, fits very well to the existential topic and j-core influences found in his music. The box looks really cool too.

Since I couldn't really hunt down that fig on amiami, someone on /a/ recommended me some american site "Lunar" and that was big mistake. It took them literally half a year to ship and then their broken systems didn't even send tracking numbers or any notifications at all. They didn't care and wanted me to pay for shipping twice anyway. Fuck that, amiami all the way.

I like the music, but that's really it for me. Never learnt the groups and surely didn't learn any of the singers names. I just look at it as a more official vocal cover of vocaloid music. Having both human and vocaloid vocals is a neat concept, though, and I wish it was explored in more interesting ways. I like it and play it daily since starting it like two years ago. It's easily my favorite rhythm gameplay of all the Miku games so far, I never did very well with console controllers but the touch gameplay, especially on a tablet is awesome. The gacha sucks but that's life, after getting enough cards of my favorite loids, new cards are really just new art and outfits so missing out on them doesn't hurt as much. Song variety is incredible and they even have lots of songs with non-Cryptonloids there, Gumi, Kafu, IA, vflower, etc etc.

Gameplay aside, I love the popularity boost it injected into the whole Vocaloid scene ever since it came out. They're also commissioning lots of big and small producers to make Vocaloid songs for the game, some really amazing new songs came out of those commissions too. The human singers are mostly ok, there's a few really good ones, a couple really bad ones. I wasn't a fan at first but like the characters themselves, the VAs grew on me over time (one of the VAs even used to be a Vocaloid producer which is funny).

The OCs and story, I could take it or leave it. I warmed up to the characters after a good while of playing the game, and I like a couple of the different units. The story is cute sometimes but not all that special, though I still read the ones for the characters I care about and all the loids too when I feel like it. One thing that did impress me was how they actually managed to include the loids in the story without actually turning them into real characters (which would ruin them IMO), just having the different versions of the loids for each sekai each having their own quirks, design and attitude to highlight the fact that everyone can have their own Miku, Rin, Len, etc. which are all different but still valid, really captured the spirit of Vocaloid I feel.

TLDR, awesome gameplay and song variety, great and cute art, some OCs and story which is whatever, gacha sucks but doesn't make any difference on the gameplay. Just don't get even close to the fandom itself since it's full of annoying zoomers.

I honestly think vocaloid has a lot to do with it. It closes the loop on individuals being able to create high quality original music. Having a lot of people working on the low end as producers creates a deep pool of talent that sometimes makes that big break into mainstream status. I also think the lost generation provided another source of fuel. Increasing numbers of young people have been giving up on the rat race, taking lower effort jobs over careers and devoting their time to passions.

Compare to somewhere like Korea that is a few decades behind on this trend, Kpop is a wholly inorganic corporate production not that different from the chaebol salaryman recruitment process and career path aside from being even more extreme. Soundcloud rappers in the US might be the closest comparison case to the vocaloid community.

My theory is that we just came up as an otaku child community from a japanese community that already feeds us well in songs and other content so that drive to create music was never as deeply installed into the fanbase's western side from the get go the way a music-less fandom (early vocaloid) had drive to create

In all honesty, FNF did created a certain music scene/niche. Of course it's much smaller, but it also is a community where people make diverse music involving certain theme/technique under a single banner.
I don't even play FNF, but some of the music I have found randomly and liked, turned out to be FNF fan music. AFAIK not even made for any specific level, just in the same style/genre.

I have this issue a lot, what goofy resolution do JP upload in on YouTube to cause YouTube to not allow me to select 720p when on mobile? Can only see most jap stuff on my phone in 360p.
Also odd about watching on mobile, 480 is rarely an option, and if it is, it’s the highest available. Most vids only have 720 and 360 as options, SOMETIMES 240 is 3rd lower option. Portrait shot video usually gives 720p and 240p as the only options.
