Mount Fuji is pretty tame. If you are used to normal hiking, it won't be a problem. There is only one ~30 minute part where you have to climb some rocks. Maybe bring gloves for that. In general it is cold on the summit.

If you start at the fifth station on the Yoshida trail, you should be on the top in ~5 hours. The way down is quicker and depends on how much you hate your knees.

Important tip: Make sure to bring tight fitting sun glasses or dust goggles. Mount Fuji is basically just one huge pile of dust.

Officially they say 6 hours. Took me and a friend 10 hours, though. We probably could have made it a bit faster, we actually go hiking often enough, especially that year. Then again, it was before Japan opening, so we could enjoy taking it easy with not too many people on the trail. We intentionally hiked into the night, because we wanted to see the sunset in the morning, and we enjoyed the night view climbing (the last 1/4th of the way or so) and then from the top.
Climbing was easy, going down killed my legs. Just to be clear, there is a different route for going down, easier and faster than any of the climbing trails, except that you are going down in an endless zigzag.
Even in the summer the summit is cold and at night it gets under 0C and it feels even worse with the winds. The moment the sun comes out you will be a tshirt in now time.

I guess it depends on how much you hike. Compared to the alps, Mount Fuji is pretty easy.
In any case, the depiction as some grand challenge like in the anime series Yama no Susume is bullshit. I'm still pissed because they told children/otaku in the series that you need expensive hiking boots for Fuji. I used $40 hiking shoes without any problems.

I really really appreciate this OP. I'm from kind of a shitty city in the US with barely any functional public works. Having been to Japan recently and also being an electrician, witnessing the railways makes me really happy that people can have such a clean and efficient public service. I understand the beauty of these trains now that I'm older.

this used to be the aizu-wakamatsu train station camera thread (hence the OP title) before said cam went down in 2017 also wow i still think of it going down as an event that happened less then a year ago wtf haha its been gone for more then half a decade wowzers lol
yunokami is the spiritual successor, though there has been periods of other stations as well as a stint of retards from the photos of japan threads brigading as well, luckily the vtuber invasion ending once they had their own board has allowed us to live with slow posting and not just 404ing every 20 minutes

i dunno how many are still around from the aizuwakamatsu days besides myself and the person who puts it in the OP still, assuming it isn't a monkeys and the ladder type of situation
i would hope im not the only creature from that era still opening this thread daily out of habit and/or emotional dependence despite aizu being long gone but it's probably a good thing to be able to move on
i still hold out hope they will turn the camera on again one day. maybe if i ever have the money to travel i can finally make my pilgrimage and ask them in person

I'm from the legit /aizu/ days and was posting yunokami webms for a year or two before losing the ability to post. You're definitely not alone, I bet there's a lot of lurkers to this thread... at least in comparison to the number of posters lol. Used to keep a monitor dedicated just to aizu, was a great comfort even when I was stuck in a datacenter cage for 10-16 hours a day. I miss it like you certainly can believe... unfortunately, as far as aizucam going back online, we had an anon do a pilgrimage out on the aizu line a number of years ago not long after the cam went down, and he inquired about it. Their excuse was "there's not enough people using it". I'll see if I can track down the archive links, this was one of the pictures from that trip. I've unfortunately lost the rest of the photos to a catastrophic RAID loss and this is a repost, so can't narrow it down by filename.

Not OP either but I've been here since 2018. I was looking for a place that shared my passion for live cameras in Japan way back in 2018 all we really had then was kinda the original Kabukicho on Youtube, which is long gone, building

In 2018 we had one live stream.
In 2023 we have HUNDREDS from the trains of the countryside to Akabane, To Fukuoka, Kyoto...the lot, we are truly spoilt right now.

Anyway I was posting in here in 2018 and someone gave me the address to the Kabukicho cam, I went and screenshoted myself a few and had a look around an area I'd spent so much time looking at online. Since that moment anyway I've been a regular here. I do mostly Youtube streams, I watch Aizu intermittently but it compete with hundreds of other streams. Mostly if I am home I have Youtube on the TV and one stream open....you can find my posts pretty much forever, well since 2018.

I also believe we have a lot of lurkers, use to do it myself.

There's a lot of people that know about old cams and other cams but seem to have disappeared over the years.

I am the monkey, though sometimes another person pitches in and makes the threads, when it takes me too long.
I was an irregular original Aizu Wakamatsu camera lurker. I very vaguely remember the threads back then, they were different, a lot more train centric and I believe a bunch of train schedules and other train otaku stuff were being posted. Then with the camera shut down and really hit me personally. I didn't want to see the threads end, so I continued making them myself and trying to motivate us to find new stations. No idea who ended up even finding Yunokami. For a while Yunokami and Bessho-Onsen were the most viewed and posted about. I guess we have kind of went back to that with Yunokami webm anon. It is the search for new train station cameras that made people link to and talk about many other cameras, like the Shinjiku one. It ended up becoming a camera thread with a lot of train cameras, which I think I am happy about. I made the github and then later an anon that has actually little to no interest in the camera stuff helped me flesh it out with extra features. Even gave access to another person here that seems to have been updating it once in a while. I am too lazy to. Even now, I am mostly a lurker.
Accidentally, I am also the anon that did the first Yunokami pilgrimage. I was lucky to be able to enter Japan during the COVID shutdowns (was supposed to enter to begin with, but got delayed). As I wanted to try hitchhiking in Japan, first I wanted to do a small test on what I thought to be the easiest route, Osaka-Tokyo. That was early March, 2021. Some people, that are good friends of mine now, were going on a trip to Kanazawa, so I just decided to follow them on a whim and then the idea of doing a several day longer trip to Tokyo through the Kanazawa, Niigata and Aizu-Wakamatsu came to me. I planned to one day go for sure, but that trip gave me an earlier opportunity and I took it. I didn't even have clothes for snow with me. It wasn't too bad though and I managed to survive just fine. Later that year in September I spend the whole month going from Osaka to Kagoshima (Cape Sata) to Hokkaido (Cape Soya) and back to Osaka. With a lot of stops in-between, all hitchhiking, in 30 days.
Here are the photos from the Yunokami pilgrimage, turns out I still had left a logged in my browser the mega account where I re-upload them last time. It includes videos of the camera and videos of me taking the whole Aizu-Wakamatsu - Yunomami train ride. Sadly the videos are not in their full quality, maybe the pictures too. After reaching Tokyo I accidentally washed my phone with my jacket, so you know, it died. I don't know what demons made me do it, but on that trip I had turned on automatic backups to google drive, something I would usually never do and don't even do nowadays. Only reason the files survived, with completely losing only a day or two of photos in Tokyo.

I also showed myself on some river cameras and at a temple camera. Earlier last year I cycled to the Akashi Bridge, the bridge from Kobe to Awaji going to Shikoku. I showed myself on the camera there, though you can barely see me. I posted before the photos from there. A week later I took a video of the Hankyu train ride from Kobe-Sannomiya to Osaka-Umeda, I believe it is in this link too.
