Not gonna lie. The first VN I played was the Katawa shoujo demo. I got hooked after that. The second game I played was Yumi Miru Kusuri which I really liked, It is posted on /jp/ and /a/ a fuck ton which shows that it is a great entry level VN, as everyone has played it (and j-list advertises it on 4chan) After that I took the plunge with fate/stay night and fucking loved it. Story really makes VNs, sure you can play eroge for the porn but..I just wasn't into it, I played wanko from beginning to end and didn't jerk it once.

To summarize, start with YMK then move onto tsukihime and or fate/stay night, both are good. After that go exploring and just play games that catch your fancy. I personally loved cross channel, sharin no kuni, and Kira Kira. But those are just my personal preferences.

I'm seriously wondering if you and I read the same fucking VN here. Hisui's route = HOPE YOU LIKE BEING BED RIDDEN AND WATCHING HISUI TRY TO DISPLAY EMOTION. For a second they even fooled me into thinking it would be interesting because you could go rifle through the old head's room for clues and shit on what the fuck is going on.
