I like reading LNs, but it's a pain trying to find LNs I can sink into compared to manga/VNs. Anyone have recs for romance LNs with cute girls? Maybe some fantasy or supernatural themes? Light or dark doesn't matter, I just don't want anything stagnant.

yeah apparently you missed the whole point
its not to use just furigana, but not worrying trying to learn every reading possible for kanji, just go for the vocab instead (which is essentially what anki core deck is)

however, I did find that studying some radicals and then sole kanji but focusing on meaning rather then reading, help me a whole lot distinguishing between elements and similar looking kanji

for me hearing words i've read before locks them in place super hard.
now that my listening comprehension is pretty good and new words are uncommon in most raw audio, I can get new words from listening, but it's usually from looking up the word right after i heard it. i think unless you're a genius or a baby with years to spend as a toddler you absolutely have to 'cheat' the system by reading a lot to get the big bulk of vocabulary you need in the first year of immersing

it's right and it's very easy. my 3DS I use for pirated DS and 3DS roms all the time. by the way I recommend all dragon quest games, and I also recommend not to worry about furigana. it's made for people who already know the language but not kanji, not people trying to learn japanese.

>> No.44423912

>>44421173
Sorry for not responding for so long. DQ11 is unique in that an old school 2D version of the game plays out on the bottom screen, and if you move around with the dpad you get old school text boxes without furigana. If you move around with the circle pad you get new text boxes with furigana, but they say the same things either way.
3DS hacking is very easy, and it's how I'm able to play Japanese games, but the most recent update to the 3DS made it less so. If you get your hands on one and it asks to update, I recommend putting it off and checking what the hack guide says instead.
http://3ds.hacks.guide/

P.S. I think furigana is useful to people learning Japanese, too lol

>and I also recommend not to worry about furigana. it's made for people who already know the language but not kanji, not people trying to learn japanese
that's dumb though, its perfectly fine for someone in the stage where you can understand most things but not always remember the kanji (or mix up the reading)
and in any case, it makes it miles easier to just type in the word in a dictionary and keep learning

There's a bootleg eShop equivalent called hShop that has a comprehensive archive of every 3DS game and some homebrew games. Follow the guide I linked earlier, then find the web page for hShop and follow their instructions for installation. I recommend reading each guide fully through at least once before actually attempting them. Once that's set up, your 3ds should be region unlocked and you can search hShop by the Japan region, games install automatically from that point on.
The 3DS can transfer files with a PC over WiFi (with some configuration on the PC's end, this being the year 2023 and not 2011), but during hacking you'll be moving the sdcard back and forth between your PC and 3DS a lot.
As for games, I haven't downloaded that many jp ones yet but my understanding is just about any first party Nintendo game will have furigana and be easy to understand since the games are for children. I'm pretty early on in my studying and even I'm catching the occasional full sentence in OoT3D. A lot of people like Animal Crossing because it references so many everyday things. You also have DS games and whatever was on the virtual console to choose from, and it's very easy to install GBA games from ROMs you download on the internet (the 3DS can actually natively play GBA games the same way it can play original DS games, it just doesn't have a physical port for the cartridges).

Today I got the feeling more than I have in a long time. That feeling that pulls me to Japan. I'm not sure exactly what triggered it, something about being with all those Japanese people today. But I think it's the first time I have felt it this much since being in Japan. It makes me truly miss it, being in Japan. I have happy memories like no other. Only now that I am back home can I truly realize how much it loved it.

I want to go to Japan so much; more than anything. I want to be able to read ノルウェーの森 from back to back. I want to have a cute Japanese girlfriend. I want to be able to have real conversations with HAL. I want to be able to get lot in manga for hours at a time.

I want to be Japanese.

I probably agree. How do you all deal with leeches? Just power through it? Or did you suspend them like the default anki settings recommend?
If I kept default anki leech settings, 20% of my finished core 2k deck would be suspended at this point. When I started, I increased the leech threshold to 20 and set it to flag instead of suspend. Because of this, I'm seeing the same leeches over and over again.
I was thinking about spending some time to learn how to handwrite these leeches so I could hopefully train my mind to see the small differences between a lot of cards that I am confusing for each other. I think I read in another thread that someone made X vs Y cards to help tell the difference between words that they were confusing for each other. Has anyone done anything like this?

What is it with you people and being afraid of making mistakes? Just keep failing the card until you stop failing it. It's not rocket science.

i just notice the 'card marked as leech' notification and nothing happens. i think beign marked as a leech doesn't affect the card in any way

>> No.44433980

>>44433672
What made you think I am afraid of failing the cards? I'm talking about being more efficient with trying to learn these cards. When a ton of my review time is spent reviewing the same cards every single day I just figure there has to be a better way than brute forcing it.
>Just keep failing the card until you stop failing it.
The point of Anki is to be more efficient with memorization. Someone doing "dumb" flashcards, aka reviewing every single card every day, is being incredibly inefficient with their time. I'm wondering if trying to brute force leeches is being inefficient too and if there is a better way.
>>44433741
It doesn't effect the card other than than flagging it as a leech so you can find it later.

>> No.44434048

>>44433980
honestly it's best to not worry about it. if you encounter it more the problem goes away. if you're talking about the core 2k deck you definitely just need to read and listen more cause those words are really common.

there's no point in suspending leeches unless you intend to edit the card to make it more memorable to you like editing the description or adding a mnemonic.
the behavior of suspending cards is to stop wasting your time on pointless reviews until you get around to fixing the card due to whatever problems you were having with it.
