I think this was a success since the purpose was to restrain Arc, which they did. Obviously he wouldn't expect Noel to be able to incapacitate Arc without special equipment.
But he severely underestimated Ciel and overestimated how weakened Arc must have been in Ciel's route though.

I think the scene actually does a good job of highlighting what they've been emphasizing throughout Ciel route. That the route is showing the depth of her character and a different side. One that is not quite the bubbly vampire Arc but not the True Ancestor Royal and weapon that Roa encountered. You get a very problematic, dangerous and unpredictable creature that's basically the worse(and most selfish) thing alive. Imagine what's going to happen when our killing machine AI's develop their own sentience objectives and emotions.. We're fucked.

That said I do think it's pretty obvious he plans to continue to expand things slowly. Unlike Fate Tsuki isn't something that will be updated frequently. Which is probably for the better thinking how Fate feels like junk food nowadays with all the low quality high quantity updates.

Arc route was good, but far side routes was much more stronger. Arc route ending hurt it even more and it was first route of vn, so it suffered same fate of been introduction chapter as Saber route in FSN. But Ciel route was indeed least popular. Even Kohaku route was above Ciel, not because of a quality, but because of strong heroine, maybe the strongest. That was in original.

As of remake, Arc route didn't change to much and have same problems as original had. Nothing really to say,other then:"Where is Arc true?".

Can I ask the dumbest question of all time? I'm reading Fate for the first time and have moments here and there of completely not understanding what the characters are getting at, and it's frustrating. For instance, where I'm at right now, very start of the Fate route, while Shirou and Sakura are arguing about him helping with the cooking or not. Shirou says since you've started coming here the meals have improved. Sakura replies that that isn't the reason the meals are good. Shirou says what do you mean, and Sakura then says:

"No, it's nothing. But please take responsibility because I can't eat a pleasant meal anywhere else any more."

What does this mean? I can't even parse this sentence or its meaning. Take responsibility? For being the reason the meals are good? Shirou gets embarrassed after this and says that Fujimura would get mad if she heard her say that and that it's a joke. I keep having these moments where I'm really into this vn and I'll be hit with these awkward passages of dialogue that I don't get. I know this is extremely minor but it illustrates an ongoing problem I'm having with the prose of this translation. Am I just a retard?

The problem is, he doesn't have a lot of real substance or depth beyond the exploration of his archetype. He is a patrician vampire knight. Compared to other DAAs who have gotten a lot of spotlight, who are all magical abominations at heart, he "at least" has a code of honor that extends as far as people who 1) can actually fight him and 2) don't make a fool out of him (you know, like Roa does). But that's really where the issue arises: Vlov's character is an aesthetic he embodies. He is superficially cool. He looks cool. He acts cool. He has cool flashy powers. But he himself is really boring.

Vlov is practically ordinary compared to Roa, Nrvnqsr, and Zepia, and unlike them, he's not the proponent of some grand esoteric theory that informs his ideological framework. In fact, Vlov's entire motivation is that he doesn't want to deal with the consequences of being a monster that those three other DAAs embraced, knowing full well they were throwing away their humanity and even their senses of self to attain their goals. Which is why Nrvnqsr is such an enormously better and more memorable midboss than Vlov: Nrvnqsr has even less of an emotional range and is focused on the pursuit of something that much fewer people can relate to, but he's just so weird and intense, and his powerset (and how he uses it in the original Tsukihime) reflects that.

Beneath the scummy exterior of his 18th reincarnation, Roa sits at the heart of Tsukihime's themes of life, death, and eternity. He (and SHIKI) are MC Shiki's perfect foil. Vlov, by comparison, is just sort of there. He exists to be cool and do flashy shit to rope in the F/GO whelps. Thematically, he's basically just another one of Nasu's "hurrdurr discarding your humanity is bad" cautionary tales.

Setting aside the fact that his story is not done yet according to Nasu, Vlov's existence serves to give the Arcueid route more depth by having Arcueid shield the rest of the entire city at the cost of losing the battle. In the Ciel route, his skill and prowess is fully revealed and it also shows Ciel's determination to Shiki. I'd argue that Vlov is the better Mid Boss because of how he affects Shiki's view of the heroines and how they're developed by the fights against him in their routes. Outside of that, I think his willpower of a mere twenty years overpowering a thousand year old curse shows just how deep he valued his humanity. He's sunk himself in vampirism and blood, but he still hasn't lost those values as he keeps his ten wives with him without consuming them.

I would also consider him a more subtle foil to Shiki. While Shiki isn't wandering around in a haze, his true self and skills are always being suppressed unless there's a battle or danger that draws them out. Vlov is the same way. It was only when the two faced each other did their true selves as murderers come out.

On the other hand, you have Nero. He has a very cool powerset and he's an interesting character, but I don't think he really fulfills a better role than Vlov does. Vlov was flashy for the purpose of expanding more on Arc's, Ciel's, and Shiki's characters. Nero was more focused, so he didn't rampage around the city.
