44384908 No.44384908 [Reply] [Original]

- No Extra
- No stage select during vs mode
- No replays
- No scoring
- Unique character specific Level 2/3 patterns are replaced by a Level 3 which is just the character's EX attack spammed
- Level 4s only have two patterns outside of a few which have one additional story mode exclusive final boss patterns
- Endings only contain one image each
- Only 13 original songs, compared to PoFV's 15. This is despite the game having a larger cast than PoFV by a fair margin
It pains me to say it, but it really does feel like ZUN just kind of phoned it in this time around.

>> No.44385059

Agreed, seeing what special ability each character had was fun though.
I guess PoDD is the one with most characters and themes but has no netplay nor replays. Since this thread killed the PoDD is da best thread I assume this is the PoFV is da best thread.

Also dam, everyone goes for the hidden eyes with the flower girl instead of making her different from generic hidden eyes girl by showing a bit of her face.

Adding a PoFV-style Extra would have been so easy, too. Although he could have gone beyond that and given each opponent an extra spell card for the extra mode.
I still hope ZUN will patch it. He can't leave the netplay like it is and consider the game done.

Banzai! (Oy Vey)! Those stupid gaijin will buy anything I put out! It doesn't even matter how many bugs or lost features it has! *Furiously rubs hands together* Better put out a DMCA request if those stupid gaijin start pirating it, though!

It's weird that ZUN just completely forgot to put a stall breaker mechanic in like PoFV had.

We'll never know since the odds this game gains a competitive following (even a meager one like
PoFV) is low, but with Yuuma having such potential to stall it probably would have been smart to add one just as a contingency.

The idea of the game is fun, the campaign is too, but the current state of netplay is unusable. There's a chance the game will get a competitive scene if and only if fan programmers take up the mantle of fixing ZUN's game (again) and implement balance changes, bugfixes and an overhaul of netplay that works. I'd love to participate with what I know but I'm not sure how.

I should add, are you sure you want this to be the "Chiyari vs Reimu" game? Maybe other shottypes should have a chance to win.

My only irk is the drum sounds like shit. Someone should tell Zun he should buy better drum samples or invest on professional music producer.

>I should add, are you sure you want this to be the "Chiyari vs Reimu" game?
And this strikes at the heart of the issue. Most players are over reactionary retards that will strike down anything the mob mentality tells them is bad. Chiyuri is suspect at the moment and may warrant a ban, Reimu is fine.

... I can't take your opinion of the game very seriously, anon. Have you played much Lunatic PvP against her?

>> No.44401465

>>44399360
Also kek "may warrant a ban", you really don't understand the game well if you think there's even a remote chance anyone can win against her. I can tell you precisely why that is, but the fact you didn't realize what she's capable of really makes me not take you seriously.
It really seems you're only against the idea because you project your lack of understanding about the game mechanics on everyone else.

I'm confident in my ability to kick your ass at UDoALG, PoFV, and if it were possible PoDD.
Reimu isn't banworthy in this game.

>>44401465
Any character, no matter how preposterous their kit, deserves the decency of being tested in actual tournament play before any decisions are made. To rush to a conclusion regarding bans is foolhardy, especially when the meta is still fledgling.
>but the fact you didn't realize what she's capable
The combination of her EX (and by extension her Level 3) and her Level 2 mean that Chiyuri can play the game completely differently from everyone else, causing unwinnable game states by simply spamming Level 2 until the opponent is literally left with no options. There is no real counterplay to this strategy either (that I'm aware of), given the fact that her EX seems to be all but immune to any sort of conventional removal. There is a possibility that she could be countered by a large scope character carefully managing her EXs while stalling the game out, but that is a toxic gamestyle that the community would likely rather not foster.
Regardless of all of that, theory alone should not determine if a character is banned. There need to be results to validate the theory, and we need to give people the chance to develop counterplay first. And if we just rush to the conclusion that Chiyuri should just be instantly banned, what's stopping the community from deciding the same is true of Reimu? Or Orin? Or Yuuma? Or any other character with mechanics which are potentially uncompetitive? Where do we draw that line, if hypothetical toxicity to the meta game is enough to ban something?

>being tested in actual tournament play
The problem is that people might be less motivated to do a tournament in the first place if everyone goes for one specific character, a test tournament or test matches before could help but might be too bothersome.
>>44422266
Basically >>44429773, you probably got like a 5% of people who play the games and most of them are more fond of standard mainline games than VS, probably the same goes for wanting to make a proper fighting game.
Also a competitive game needs to have other people to play whereas if you pic random genre casual singleplayer game more fans will play and it will be easier to make.
