Skill books by themselves are a super strong bonus items balanced by only having access to 1-2 at a time and only for 1-2 weeks per visit to the shop. Giving them to the player is in fact giving out overpowered items forever.

Other than the kappas' random schizo inventions, Gensokyo is a pretty low-tech world (by design) where people send letters or have to meet each other face to face; cell phones and computers aren't really a thing, and many of the characters wouldn't care about them if they even knew of them in the first place. It's even a plot point in Koishi's ULiL route that her trying to do Mary-san is a bad idea because virtually no one even knows what a phone is.

The entire argument was obviously about the general tech level with the kappa being noted as an outlier. And even then, Hatate's "phone" is actually just a camera designed to look like a flip phone that she uses for her thoughtography, and is never shown to operate like an actual phone. And on top of that, the kappa like to build flashy, individualistic, and nonsensical things, and something large-scale and pragmatic like a Gensokyo-wide communication network would fall apart almost immediately as they get bored of it and start to build something else. In spite of their incredible talents, they're not actually all that useful to the rest of Gensokyo, unless you're incredibly good at tard wrangling them.
It's just not believable that there's a proper phone network in place in Gensokyo, even if the kappa would technically be able to build one.

The whole idea behind this feature just looks like someone saw a feature they like in another game and are desperately trying to fit it into a different game where it just doesn't make sense, and there's just no way it wouldn't look horribly out of place.
And the weirdest part is that the idea of girls visiting Kourindou just to bother you and/or Rinnosuke is actually a core part of that setting, and a lot of fanworks featuring Rinnosuke will involve something like that, but it's just the "remote" part that's completely out of place.

Look, working cellphones are fine because if everyone had smartphones, do you know what will happen? When you get Kosuzu as a lover/waifu or at least a very good friend, they'll have you turn on Locator Services on Gensokyo Maps only to find out that you spend a lot of time at Akyuu's place, especially at night. Which is bad, because then you might have jealous/yandere 2hus banging down the door going "Stop right there Outsider scum" and instantly award you 1-2 Warning Talismans, if Reimu cared about it at all. Also SDM Casino might end up popping up on your smartphone instead and you might turn out to be the loser Outsider who spends all day at home playing a Touhou Waifu Collection gacha game, which is also bad. As mentioned in the previous thread, for TW it's pretty much the Purists who will refuse any change to the game versus the Radicals who want to expand on the game. To the Purists, TW is already almost perfect and requires no action to enjoy, while the Radicals are trying to breath new life into an already decade old era game. There is no way to force the player do anything in the first place, so even using "main goal" in the first place is idiotic. Any request you get could be a "main goal" by following a similar logic. Reality is that you pick what you want to do over the course of the day and that's it, you can change your mind midway and go fuck a fairy or work on fighting everyone instead of foraging all day or trying find that one fish that's missing from your collection. However, specifically choosing to include this in the suggestion might mean you're going to be punished for dropping the quest midway, and that's arguably a bad thing. It's a valid complaint as long as it's not explained fully.

It's the same thing as trying to argue a political point/action with someone who is fundamentally opposed to your stance and regardless of how it's presented or any concessions made for them, they will still oppose it while trying to pull as much of the carpet, if not the entire building, from under you.
