Normally I'd be unable to take case 2 seriously because of such a distractingly hot woman being there but I was still able to which shows how well done the game is.

Really now? In first game second case was murder of Mia, in second game it was the one Pearls was introduced in and it also sets up the best case in series, the 3-5 and in third one it was definitely better than third case. Also first appereance of Godot.

I tend to find the cases in between the first and the last are always filler cases. The sole exception being 2-2.

3-2 has the honour of being the first case with Godot but that still barely redeems it. ALL of the cases in 4 felt like filler.

One thing that was bad in Apollo Justice was how there was no character developement at all. Through first game you learn why Phoenix wants to defend people, why Edgeworth hates criminals and you see them change.
Same happens with Franziska and Godot in next games, but in fourth one? After it's all over we don't know shit about Apollo except who his mother was, and Klavier is as good as blank character in the end as well.
