I can't be the only one, right?
Using the phone keyboard really helped me learn Hiragana quickly.
Why aren't there any Katakana character phone keyboards?
Typing it in Hiragana and then pressing the convert button is faster, no question, but for learning purposes it's really bad.

Does anyone have what I'm looking for?

At least it got me to start a mining deck, looking up kanji you don't know is cancer.

>須菩提白佛言:世尊、頗有衆生得聞如是言說章句生實信不。
須菩提は仏に白(まう)して言(い)はく:世尊、頗(すこぶ)る*衆生の是(か)くが如く章句を言説するを聞いて実の信を生ずるを得るは有るか不(いな)か。
*ここでは、疑問を表す副詞。梵語からの訳語。
Subhūti spoke to the Buddha, saying: Bhagavat, will there be beings who can hear these verses thus expounded and give rise to true faith? Or will there not?
>佛吿須菩提、莫作是說。如來滅後後五百歲、有持戒修福者。於此章句能生信心以此爲實。
仏は須菩提に告ぐ:「是(こ)の説を作(な)す莫(な)かれ。如来の滅後の後五百歳、戒めを持って福を修むる者有らん。此の章句に於いて信の心を生じて此れを以て実と為(な)すことに能(あた)はん。
The Buddha said to Subhūti, "Do not speak these words. Five hundred years after the Tathāgata has passed on, there will be those who keep the precepts and cultivate merit. They will be able to give rise to hearts of faith at these verses and take them to be true.
>當知是人不於一佛、二佛、三四五佛而種善根、已於無量千萬佛所種諸善根。
当(まさ)に是の人は一仏、ニ仏、三四五仏に於いて善の根を種(う)うるにあらず、已(すで)に無量千万の仏に於けるは諸善の根種うる所なりと知るべし。
You must know that it is not with one, two, three, four or five Buddhas with which these people have planted roots of virtue, but that it is uncountable millions of Buddhas in whom the roots of all good merit have been planted.
>聞是章句乃至一念生淨信者。須菩提、如來悉知悉見是諸衆生得如是無量福德。
是の章句を聞いて乃至一念にして浄信を生ずる者なり。須菩提、如来は是の諸衆生の是くが如き無量の福徳を得るを悉(ことごと)く知って悉く見る。
They are those who hear these verses and in the space of even one thought give rise to pure faith. Subhūti, the Tathāgata knows and sees that all these beings attain these uncountable good merits.
>何以故。是諸衆生無復我相人相衆生相壽者相。無法相亦無非法相。
何を以ての故か。是の諸衆生には我相、人相、衆生の相、寿者の相に復(かへ)る無し。法の相無く、亦(ま)たは法に非ざる法も無し。
And why is this? All these beings do not return to concepts of a self or a person, to concepts of being or a lifespan. They have no concept of the dharma, or even a concept of non-dharma.
>何以故。是諸衆生、若心取相則爲著我人衆生壽者。若取法相卽著我人衆生壽者。
何を以ての故か。是の諸衆生、若(も)し心を以て相を取れば則ち我人衆生寿者に着くと為(な)る。若し法の相を取れば即ち我人衆生寿者に着く。
Why is this? All of these beings, if they were to hold such concepts in their hearts, would then be clinging to self, to person, to beings and lifespan. If they were to hold the concept of dharma, they would then be clinging to these things.
>何以故。若取非法相、卽著我人衆生壽者。
何を以ての故か。若し法に非ざる相を取れば、即ち我人衆生寿者に着く。
Why is this? If they were to hold the concept of non-dharma, they would then to clinging to these things.
>是故不應取法、不應取非法。以是義故、如來常說汝等比丘:知我說法如筏喻者。法尚應捨、何況非法。
是の故に応(まさ)に法を取るべからず、応に法に非ざるを取るべからず。是の義を以ての故、如来は常に汝等の比丘に説く:「我が説く法、筏喻の者が如しと知れ。法は尚ほ応に捨つべくんば、何ぞ法に非ざるを況や。」
Therefore one should hold the dharma, nor hold the non-dharma. It is for this reason that the Tathāgata always preaches to you monks: "Know that the dharma which I teach is like a raft. If even the dharma should be discarded, how much more the non-dharma?"

mangafags definitely have it the worst
raws of manga series being scanned in poor quality and never being scanned again is so common it's basically the standard. cause VNs/eroge only exist digitally they're much easier to share so not only are they easier to find the bad scans problem doesn't exist. LN epubs are hard to find but once you get good enough the scans are good enough anyway. and obviously wtih anime even if a series is so cursed you can only find hardsubs, you can at least hear it, and anime are always getting re-releases, remasters etc. that get ripped and uploaded. no one bothers to redo old manga series. even mega popular ones like HxH are only available in atrocious quality

おはよう! I'm very new but passionate! I have questions

こんにちは! If you couldn't tell, I'm still a fledgling to learning Japanese. I'm kind of trying to learn on my own/teach myself; I don't really have any resources for traditional classes (to my knowledge) and only have loose understanding of French and Spanish.

I've always wanted to learn Japanese, but was incredibly intimidated by two "alphabets" and kanji. But, I took the plunge 80 days ago, subscribed to Duolingo Super and have been positively addicted to doing lessons everyday.

I understand I am barely scratching the surface; I can count to four and know some very basic introductions, departures, greetings, and time (at least I know 1-4 o'clock lol).

I feel that I have hiragana down pat and katagana is right around the corner for me. I have understanding of like...3 kanji characters lol

But, being new and having no in-person teacher, I am often left to my own devices with getting answers. I just discovered this thread and I'm excited to engage with the community :)

So my first question is about kanji; stroke order. Is this super super necessary when writing/learning Japanese/kanji? I see both sides of the argument. Just wanted to hear others' opinions.

Secondly, going forward in my learning adventure. I am thoroughly enjoying Duolingo, but I really want to bolster my learning. I'm not sure if I'm at this point yet (probably not) but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in terms of daily "practice". I.e., simple/easy stories/manga to read, worksheets/homework sites, etc etc

I really really want to stick with this because it feels so fulfilling and I absolutely love sharing languages, customs and cultures with everybody! I do not want this drive to shrivel up.

Anywho, any pointers or recommendations from veterans here would be amazingly helpful

ありがとうございます! じゃあね!

A quick question.

>その無限に広がるの白の中心に、一人の女の子が白いワンピースを着て座り込んでいました。
Why is there の between 広がる and 白の中心?
The only thing I can think of is that there is some grammar I haven't heard about. Like の shifts the target that the verb modifies directly to the following word. What I mean is:
広がるの白の中心 - (広がるの白)の中心 - 中心 that is 広がる白
広がる白の中心 - 広がる(白の)中心 - 広がる中心 that is 白
But this is just my theory. Any link on this? As you can imagine, it's quite hard to google.
Or is it just a typo?

nta but の nominalizes adjectives, verbs, or phrases to become noun phrases. In this case, 無限に広がる (to infinitely spread) becomes その無限に広がるの (the infinitely spreading / the endless expanse). Add the noun 白 and we have その無限に広がるの白 (the infinitely spreading white / the white of endless expanse) and の中心に means "at the center of."
Make sense?

>その無限に広がるの白 (the infinitely spreading white / the white of endless expanse)
But the phrase その無限に広がる can directly modify 白 with the same meaning: その無限に広がる白. If you add の you just have two nouns next to each other, because the nominalizing の following a verb doesn't have the properties of the "possessive" の.
You could say that by adding の at the end of a verb (or an adjective), you're taking away that verb's ability to modify, instead of giving it to it.
I've finished quite a few games in Japanese already and nouns were always modified by nouns in plain or past form (including passive, progressive etc.), this is the first time I've seen something like this.
So, yes, I still don't get why の would need to be there. Or rather, how it could even be allowed to be there.
I'm still trying to google this, but the only thing I found is a topic on stackexchange where someone asks about this "verbのnoun pattern" and there are only two replies, both state that it's not grammatical and must be a typo.

Should I drop "Core 2k/6k Optimized Japanese Vocabulary"? I don't want spend my life learning kanjis for all these office rat and school kid related words. This deck is fucked, and hard, and I already in the past decided to fuck it even more and add furigana to every card because remembering all kanjis is way too much.

Another deck I was doing is "Japanese Core 2000" which is way better but way less notes, but instead each note has tons of cards and sentence cards to learn everything much more easier.

So I guess I gonna drop first one, even though I 30% into it. I guess mining with yomichan would be better, should've try it.

須菩提、意に於いて云何(いかん)せん?如来は阿耨多羅三藐三菩提を得るか?如来に説く所の法は有るか?
Subhūti, in your thoughts, what say you? Does the Tathāgata attain anuttara-samyak-saṃbodhi (perfect enlightenment)? Does the Tathāgata have a dharma which he teaches?
>須菩提言:如我解佛所說義、無有定法名阿耨多羅三藐三菩提、亦無有定法如來可說。
須菩提言(い)はく:我が仏の説く所の義を解するが如く、阿耨多羅三藐三菩提を名とする定かなる法の有るは無く、亦(ま)た如来の説くべき定かなる法の有る無し。
Subhūti said, "As I understand the meaning spoken by the Buddha, a fixed concept named perfect enlightenment does not exist, and neither does a fixed concept which the Tathāgata could teach."

何を以ての故か。如来の説く所の法は皆な取るべからずして説くべからず、法に非ずして法に非ざるにも非ず。

Subhūti, in your thinking, what say you? If a person were to fill the greater trichiliocosm of worlds with the seven types of treasures and use them to carry out charity, would the good merit attained by this person perhaps be great, or would it not?
>須菩提言、甚多世尊。何以故。是福德卽非福德性、是故如來說福德多。
須菩提言(い)はく、甚(はなは)だ多かり、世尊。何を以ての故か。是の福徳は即ち福徳の性に非ず、是の故に如来は福徳多かりと説く。
Subhūti said, "It would be extremely great, Bhagavat. Why? Because this good merit is not, then, the essence of good merit, and therefore the Tathāgata teaches that this good merit is great."
>若復有人於此經中受持乃至四句偈等爲他人說、其福勝彼。
若し復(ま)た人が此の経の中に於いて乃至四句の偈等を受持して他人が為に説く有らば、其の福は彼れに勝る。
If there were yet even one person who could receive and hold a four-line verse from within this sutra and teach it for the sake of others, his merit would exceed that.
>何以故。須菩提、一切諸佛及諸佛阿耨多羅三藐三菩提法皆從此經出。
何を以ての故か。須菩提、一切の諸仏及び諸仏の阿耨多羅三藐三菩提の法は皆な此の経より出づ。
Why is this? Subhūti, all Buddhas, as well as the dharma of perfect enlightenment of all the Buddhas, derive from this sutra.
>須菩提、所謂佛法者卽非佛法。
