Depending on the demon you can open with whipping. On a pixie/high pixie's first training session you can whip-aphrodisiac-whip, it will knock her out but it will instantly get her to 3 pain marks, 3 submission marks, 2 obedience, 2 desire, 1 masochism. You'll get 1 hate mark from it but everything else will basically win perfect obedience so you can spend the next session (after she rested for a day to recover stamina) making her lick your feet/ass to get rid of the hate mark. What I'm trying to figure out is where to go from there that doesn't involve the typical sex toy spam since maso needs to earn desire orbs somehow.

Seems like torture/abuse is only good at generating marks, and pain/fear orbs. To get maso EXP you need a mix of pain and pleasure. There aren't a lot of things that do this built in though, it's all conditional stuff like dry sex. Masochist itself gives a small amount of desire for getting hurt but it's not substantial.

Needles also work well, but maybe too well compared to the whip, once you get someone close to that via the usual methods for the standard submission, which is mostly anal caressing until you can shove in an anal vibrator. It's an emulator, the latest version of the executable should run nearly any era game that doesn't use a specially modded anchor (SumireTeru is the only one I know of). Some very old eramaker games might have minor errors due to engine differences, but I've never had any fail to run.
The menus won't be translated anymore, so make sure you know where the clipboard setting is.

They give you access to exclusive training commands and one of 3 Linkage skills in combat. Mechanically-speaking I can't recall much of a difference.

Depends on what you want to do with them. In terms of facilities, Affection/Love raises the stat calculation for Restaurant and Concert (Idol), while also making it easier for them to work in the Restaurant (Affection lowers the point requirement (Obedience + Servicing + Cooking) from 6 to 3, but since getting Affection requires Obedience lv3 anyway, they automatically qualify, while Love reduces this to 0 points required). I'm pretty sure Affection fall also reduces their sales price, if you want to sell them.

Friendship (Trust/Sworn Friend) makes it easier for them to be an Idol (adds points to the requirements total). I don't think you can send them to work anywhere other than Restaurant and Concert, and you can't sell them, of course. Requires Untrained Fall (Same Sex Friendship) setting on, but I'm pretty sure you can get Trust fall on the opposite sex as well. Friendship is lost if you ever Train them (even if you [Train] and immediately [End Training] without doing anything). Note that a character can get both Friendship and Affection falls at the same time if you grinded enough Loyalty and you never trained them. In this case, if you [Train] a character with both Friendship and Affection, Friendship goes away but Affection stays. Note that this can make a character who was able to work as an Idol suddenly unable to do so, because Friend/Sworn Friend/Blood Oath adds +1/+2/+3 points to that calculation but Affection/Love/Wife all add +0.

Lewd/Whore also has an increased sales value, I think, and have an increased income from working in a Brothel and also maybe Public Toilet? Not sure about Slave Rental. Like Submission, they reduce income gained from Restaurant, but there's no problem with a prostitute idol in the world of eraMegaten. At Whore or Nympho, they can perform Live Orgy, which is pretty much an 'idol concert' where they sing and also get into an orgy with their fans. But unlike normal Idol work, I don't think Live Orgy gets items from their 'fans', since they're giving a lot of MAG and possibly more yen as well.

Of the four fall states, in terms of efficiency, Affection/Friend Fall is the fastest if you have Untrained Fall on. If you spend a bit of time in the Isora Zone and have SS-Entertainer active on a Summoner Lv3 or above, you can get those falls on 5-20 characters a day. Getting an Untrained Affection Fall in this way automatically gives that character Submit Mark 3 and Obedience Lv3, so when you finally do start [Training] them, you'll have a significantly easier time doing so from the start and can Housework/Singing Practice right away, and also Bride Play for massive Submit orb gains every training session. The only time you should really be doing an Affection fall the 'normal way' is if you either don't like Untrained Falls (Loyalty Grinding), the character is is not cooperative (e.g. Reiko from SMT IF, Nemissa, etc.) or they are a non-combatant but (You) are not working in the Restaurant with them (if (You) are working in a Restaurant, any non-combatants also working in the Restaurant gets Loyalty every day).

Oh yes, I should add that if a character has both Friendship and Affection, but you did the Friendship Contract (Blood Oath), Affection goes away. Blood Oath characters are permanently filtered from the list of possible Training targets until the next run (if you reset relationship). Vanilla battle settings is generally harder than default battle settings. But well, it's not worth it most of the time. I personally hardly use Linkages as it is as it often feels like I'd end up doing less damage than if I had the members involved attack individually. It otherwise also lets (You) and other Fallen party members to masturbate while in a dungeon, and even having sex with each other. As for the mercy battle events, I assume it relates to the part where if you're far above the enemy's level, they may ask for you to let them go? Which results in them either immediately taking advantage of you to have a free turn to attack you, them actually running away, joining you for free, or give you an item (or hurt you) like in negotiations. Letting them go pushes you towards Light while looking to kill them all pushes you towards Dark. The demon(s) asking for mercy counts as a negotiation attempt, so if you refuse to let them go, you can't Talk to them again ('they get fired up').

Speaking of older era games, I've been going through the list of era variants on the JP wiki and there are quite a few interesting looking ones. Like eraDQK, which is pretty much 'era Dungeon Keeper' except it's based on Dragon Quest, and for a more interesting sort of old era game style where it isn't 'train and sell the first slave asap' kind of game, eraKami. eraKami is a Shrine Management Simulator, pretty much, in that (You) are a kami sent to try to revive a nearly forgotten shrine back to glory, since having worshipers provide divine power, and you do this by 'training' Shrine Maidens to run the shrine for you. And using the era training system you get them to learn how to be shrine maidens and gather worshipers and donations, and only get into the actual usual era sexual training if there is enough divine power present for (You) to descend for a short while to 'bestow your divine blessing' to your Head Shrine Maiden ('current target slave'). Meanwhile you have to reconstruct and do up the shrine buildings and stuff, because if there's not even a main shrine building no one's going to be worshiping at that shrine at all. I was pretty impressed with it, though it seems to crash when trying to assign orders to my other non-active target shrine maidens ('standby orders') on the Anchor, which makes the game significantly harder since your other shrine maidens will otherwise do nothing if you don't tell them to do anything and will just slack off instead.

In terms of newer era games, one of the up and coming anticipated ones is eraFL ('era Fantasy Life'?). It's still in its 'early stages' (ver 0.270), but it's a project that was only started last year, after all. I'm glad that it's being brought up to date on the git as well - though it uses the TohoK coding as its base, it doesn't play like TohoK, just like how era4X doesn't play like TohoK. It's actually a nice sandbox-ish RPG that you can kind of play it as a simulation game if you wanted to, with a nice looking portrait system that isn't the TW-styled one. It's still actively updated, with the last update for it being a patch to fix something on 0.270 yesterday, so I look forward to its progress. Maybe it'll become something I've been looking for ever since the idea of TW came around.

I don't think it's based on the actual Fantasy Life, just that it's a 'fantasy life'.
