What is this?

/jp/ has started on a project to translate the visual novel Hatsukoi, one of the highest rated according to the Japanese.

Are you in need of translators?

Of course! Anyone with knowledge of Japanese (and English) is welcome to join in and start translating with the simple and easy-to-use REtrans™ Web Interface.

Are you in need of editors?

Definitely. You don't even need to know Japanese to help improve the English text, so your participation is encouraged.

What is the length/progress/ETA?

The total length of the content is approximately 32k lines. We are slightly over 40% as of this post. At our current rate of 0 lines a week, we'll finish sometime in ∞ of ∞. But the more translators we have, the faster everyone can enjoy the results!

Character sizes were hardcoded, but changing them didn't change the width, so I've decided it has some clever way of computing them at runtime and spent 3 days making sense of that object oriented rendering hell.

>>4464889
It's trivial to write a script that'll put linebreaks in the correct place, given the character limit. To ameliorate the engine with wordwrapping functionality, however, isn't. Thus, we'll go with the former option, unless >>4464866-kun has figured it out already. Also, try to preserve double-width character rendering too... might need to add a little extra code to do that, i.e.

if(char<127)
width = single
else
width = double

Haha, that's one of my lines. I forgot I did maybe 3 lines of Common. I guess some of what I translated WILL end up in the final after all. Woot.

This looks complicated, a hell of a lot more complicated than I think a lot of people were giving credit for. I hope people realize that it's a real group effort and if everybody doesn't do their part the whole thing fails.

Good luck guys.

thank you for your help. im afraid i cant figure it out (have never tried to do something like this before/no experience other wise) but i appreciate the help.

if somebody whos working on this/has the images extracted (that look like op picture) and could up them somewhere, that would be delightful. however, i realize that that isnt the purpose of this, so if not, thats cool too.

anyway, thanks for your previous help. it was appreciated.

If you're good at RE, you should've done it yourself, it wouldn't take half the time it took me.
Anyway, I've tried to preserve wide chars, but to no avail. Space between the chars is not connected to chars themselves and by the time it gets to wordwrapping the actual char values are long lost. OTL

I didn't have the time. At the very beginning (last year), I did a preliminary inspection. If you give me the relevant addresses/structures I can try to get DBCS and SBCS characters to display properly. It'll require a bit of FE. If you want to try too, this is what I'm thinking:

Where it reads the line to be displayed, one character at a time, add code to store the character somewhere (the early init code or the heap of useless shit the RTL has are good candidates for overwriting with this.) When it actually displays the character, use this stored value to determine the advance width and increment to the width counter. Now it should be able to do DBCS and SBCS correctly.

Actually, I did exactly that, but my first implementation was faulty and I gave up too early.
Now it seems to work, save/load screen text is too wide now though, but I couldn't care less for now.
The code section is not writable by default and I don't want to mess with VirtualProtect, so I've used the data section. I hope it always loads at the same address.
Also looks like it can't draw newlines, you'll need to pad the lines with spaces.

>>4473032
The file doesn't have relocs. It'll always load at the same address. You can always change the section attributes in the header if you want the code section writable. Try a literal \n for a newline.

>>4473043
It should be possible to insert new lines into the script; otherwise, moving part of the text into the next line would also work.

>>4473080
It's a *printf. Look around 4aa2ff or so in the EXE. I haven't figured out where the parameters are coming from though.

>> No.4475003

>>4473616
I don't have the debug database on me right now, and I'm bad at documenting and organizing stuff anyway.You can check out the exe for the time being. Basically it does what you said, save and replace. Replacing occurs in the wordwrapper and the width is propagated to various structures from there. Save/load screen text follows a different codepath and needs an additional check to disable replacing.
