When the Chinese got rid of Hao who was a big fan of Konishi boats and Rigging, you started to see all the Azur lane factions start to slip more and more away from boat girl rigging and more into some kind mythology shit. And their krauts always had shitty looking mecha animals for rigging.

Akari Hoshi is just taking advantage of the higher resolution to draw more details so she draws her characters in a facing forward style as opposed to the 3/4ths style most KanColle artists use.

Why have no other thinggirl franchises managed to catch up to KanColle in the sheer variety and delectability of their waifu designs? Even if we normalize the age (so KanColle doesn't have a headstart) and say we only regard KanColle from like 2017, KanColle was STILL leagues above them.

All of their designs just look too fantasy/sci-fi for my taste. It looks like nothing you would wear in an alternate version of our own timeline, unlike the KanColle designs which I could see being worn by actual 16 year old girls in a timeline where people aren't moralcucked about enforcing short skirt figure-fitting uniforms AND where the girls simultaneously would be pure and not slut out. Also a timeline that would have a less cucked stance about updating traditional clothes into modern cute designs and have it be worn as regular clothes and not cosplay (see image what I mean). Honestly that mini hakama design is hot as hell, and literally ALL you did was just apply a pair of scissors to a regular miko uniform. This is in contrast to Azur Lane, where most designs are just straight up nerd /tg/ fantasy shit.

You are onto a real dynamic. Another military otaku franchise, Girls und Panzer, also has more influence than you'd expect with its content output (like one movie every two or three years). A military/history link is always beneficial, which not all gaccha/whatevermusume franchises make use of.
I think the big next thing will be just a straight up WW2 Polandball-style franchise, where the girls stand for things like individual divisions/armies or commanders. This would lead to endless engagement. Like memes about 6th-Army-chan being smothered by Operation Uranus-chan or something.

Yep. I never really considered the perception of KanColle among women, but the fact that all of the botes look cute in a sense that would also appeal to a female audience (way more than other franchises) is definitely another factor.

You can only get away with that if it's a liquid cooled V12, but Japan almost exclusively used radials. So they would need a radial with 1800+ hp, which they did make a couple of, but too little too late.

Yes really, US aviators had to devise special tactics to fight the Zero because a Wildcat had no chance against it alone. I remember reading somewhere (so it might not be totally factual) that even Battle of Britain veterans flying Spitfires had trouble against it.

But the F4F had much better dive performance, was more durable, and had much better survivability. There's a reason why wildcats had a better than 1:1 shot down ratio against zeros, even when Japan still had good pilots.

depends on the altitude and speed. The F4F was a more advanced fighter than the zero in terms of engine and had a 2 stage super charger and thus would not lose performance unlike the Zero at higher altitudes and speeds. Yes Production Wildcats got a more advanced engines earlier than Supermarine Spitfires with 2 stage super chargers. In fact when the F4F prototype flew it was the only fighter aircraft with a two stage super charger.

Was the both greatest strength of machine but also what killed many of the zero pilots who had no replacements. Having to do long range missions often against Hendersen field and other targets drained the physical strength of many Japanese pilots. There is a reason Japanese pilots and P-51 pilots had to take Amphetamine.
Unlike many fighters of the war(on both sides) the Navy fighters had their armor rated against 12.7mm guns rather than 7.7mm guns which gave them the advantage against early zeros who really liked using 7.7mm guns since the 20mm cannons were poor.

Spitfire V struggled because it was outdated(Spitfire IXs were new so RAAF got hand me downs so no two stage superchargers) and a lot of RAAF pilots didn't know the Spits range and loiter time so it fell into the ocean trying to chase fighter aircraft with longer range. It had nothing to do colder climate.
If the F4F were truly inferior then no amount of tactics would have helped.

Shoot down at Santa Cruz was 13 wildcats to 15 Zeros. If you include crashed and ditched planes then it's 23 wildcats to 24 zeros.
I won't count planes that were ship bombed on either side.

BTW the reason the P-38 was favored over the P-40 is because the P-38 could take the fight to the enemy.

Literally not the point. I'd even go as far as to say you're deflecting. I pointed out, off the top of my head, two men who independently identified that without an altitude advantage the aircraft the US had at hand simply were not adequate in a solo fight against the Zero. If I recall correctly, Chennault said "If you encounter a zero at medium altitude and medium speed you are outnumbered". But of course, what would they know about fighting a Zero?

The creation of the Thatch Weave is actually pretty interesting. In 1941 he had learned through available information that the Zero was faster than the Wildcat, though I don't know if he knew anything else about it at that point. And so after experimenting with tactics using matchsticks on a table, he ends up doing mock dogfights with some volunteers and finds out, that the higher speed of the Zero was a huge advantage. But he did prove himself right in that two Wildcats working in close formation "weaving" in and out could easily negate this as in order for the lead Wildcat to get shot down, the Zero would have to make himself vulnerable to the trailing Wildcat.

I know this has been very long winded but I'm trying very very hard to get you to understand that while the Wildcat is indeed inferior to the Zero, that does not make it a bad plane. Once US pilots were finally instructed on how to fight the Zero they did very well with it. But that does not change the fact that the Zero is simply the more capable aircraft.

Speed and maneuverability are not the only factors that make a good airplane. A B-29 is faster than a zero and a type 96 is more maneuverable, but obviously neither of those are as good of a fighter. An F4U-1 could both fly faster and have similar maneuverability to an F8F-1, but the bearcat is obviously superior (later model corsairs are debatable).
In addition to the better dive performance, the F4F handled better than the zero at high speeds, in push-overs and pullouts. It was also a much better gunnery platform and the 4-6 .50 guns were more consistent than the mixed loadout on the zero, especially when the 20mm ran out of it's small ammo supply.
But US pilots didn't know all of this at first, they just saw that it was slightly faster and much more maneuverable, and promptly chose to not engage on terms that would favor the zero. Neither the zero nor the wildcat were bad planes, but each had their advantages and disadvantages. The were a pretty even match, and the shot down ratio proves that. Anecdotes from pilots are just that, anecdotes. Saburo Sakai preferred the handling of the zero to that of the reppu, but that doesn't make the zero better. No one here thinks their a better pilot than Thach or Sakai, but that doesn't mean you can just ignore everything else because they said something.
