The thing I dislike about Umineko the most is the fact you don't get a satisfying conclusion the central mystery of the whole work at the end. We know it's Yasu but to see how it's actually pulled off you have to read the manga. iirc the ending boils down to "was it magic or not lol". It's been a while since I finished it so I don't remember the exact details. Maybe I'm just not getting the whole point of the story but if that's true what's the manga doing then?

Ok so Beatrice is a work of fiction. Her creator couldn't spend 5 minutes to look into how to do a cups and balls trick without requiring the viewer to close their eyes. The thing I took away from all that was that if no one had solved the Epitaph, she wouldn't have managed to bring herself to kill everyone anyway. One of the console arcs has arguably the saddest ending in the franchise. It's nothing grandiose, but that's why it hits so hard. Hinamizawa isn't destroyed, Rika dies so Takano's plans are foiled. Mion and Keiichi are the remaining Higus alive so they end up going on a date (ROMANCE? IN MY HIGURASHI?) aaaand Takano shot Keiichi offscreen in a fit of rage while Mion left to go to the bathroom.
Just imagine that final hit to Mion's heart. They already got one of those "everyone fucking died and we're traumatized for life" endings, but afterwards while attempting to have some little fun this happens.

The one advantage Reiwa has is that it's taking longer to reveal the mystery rather than doing it way too early and then having nothing else, so it fuels discussion for longer, but it's not like Reiwa's content is actually going anywhere.

And the mystery reveal can end up just as weak. Even without H173, the syndrome victim in these manga are basically written like that, jumping from 0 to 100 almost instantly. In the original series we'd have a bunch of interactions between Kururu and other characters after the festival, not just her going from that to instantly killing Keitaro the next time they interact. Same thing goes with Hoshiwatashi, where Kisaku disappearing and Rika dying are used to instantly make Sakiko (and the entire village) go insane rather than things escalating from that point on.

The newest chapter also pretty much confirmed any culprit will be blamed on the freaking parasites (apparently they aren't viruses now anymore). Polaris is infected with Hinamizawa Syndrome, while Hinamizawa is infected with Polaris Syndrome (head scratch, strong sense of justice and duty to protect their community, spirit of martyrdom). So, basically no one is responsible for their actions here.

This is a story about reevaluating our images of the original Higurashi cast with Keitarou practilicy worshipping the ground his father works on and How Sakiko prides herself on being a Kimiyoshi and the daughter of Kisaku. Yet, it's already been confirmed that Sakiko isn't the biological daughter of Kisaku and that there are two sets of culprits with one Killing Keiichi, Rika, and Mion, and the other killing Kisaku and his assistant. The culprits in this story are Kisaku and Keiichi/Satoko and unlike with Kisaku Keiichi and Satoko will be parasite free when they murder Kisaku. Kisaku has been shown suffering from the virus but not keiichi nor Satoko so why would they murder him? Simple, to finally be together and to be a familiy once again with his daughter Sakiko and his son Keitarou. This will force Sakiko and Keitarou to reevaluate their entire image of their father and if there core beliefs hold any value after seeing the truth behind the men who taught them.

And this is just one part of the story you still have Polaris and Inori and the other club members, the story is a million times better written than Gou/sotsu/meguri and written with genuine heart instead of a shitty character assinsting cash grab Shitsu and Goutshit was.

She's supposed to be feel burdened by her position both back when she was the unwanted twin and later being forced to take on the role of successor and playing "Mion". It's why no twin switch and her being sent to St.Lucia in Saikoroshi is presented as a good thing for her.

R07 in the 20th anniversary event also outright talked about how the "Mion" and "Shion" roles/personalities were created before the twin switch and how for their growth they'd need to throw it away eventually be their actual selves, but Reiwa just keeps Mion like her mask in 83.

Meguri's Wataakashi actually has a pretty nice scene that shows Mion and Shion's body language completely changes when they are relaxing by themselves, with Mion being more feminine while Shion was more boyish - since their usual surface personalities are just masks originally created by each other, like R07 himself said.

Make Shion start her usual killing spree, but then Mion kills her and goes insane, thinking Shion had colaborators or whatever, leading to the confrontation with Satoko. That way you could keep the Watadamashi events but wouldn't need Mion just retreading Shion's steps (or Shion following her own steps again).

Hm... I guess they wouldn't want two different culprits though? It still seems like it'd be the best option.

They’d never answered why Mion thought the Sonozaki’s were after Keiichi in the first place. Shion had just zapped Oryou, locked Mion up and thought they both murdered Satoshi or were responsible for his disappearanced. There’s no reason Mion should be paranoid about Keiichi even with injection. Anime Sotsu shows the only thing setting off Mion is Satoko joking about Shion and Him after displaying no symptoms prior so it’s so forced.

I actually couldn't find any credits to whoever was the writer. Either way, the script was mostly reused from the anime. There were some changes,but it seems to be mostly to cut scenes for time or to write off characters who didn't have their VAs in the event (even just as recordings like Rika's and Tomitake's).

As far as Wata goes, the biggest changes were

Satoko approaches Teppei (who has no lines) telling him she had a dream about her aunt and then it skips to her having gotten money from him and intending to buy a gun, but without actually showing any of that or her training on screen.

Some cut stuff, like the scene where Keiichi hits the bikes and gets helped out by Mion, or Shion getting driven to the festival.

Mion decides to kill Rika just because she's the last 3 great family leader remaining, so killing her should end the curse, no scene where Rika lashes out on Keiichi.

Mion overhears Shion talking with Keiichi about them being in the shrine and Takano and Tomitake disappearing. That's what's supposed to set her off in Sotsu. It's all really dumb though. Even before Oryo, Mion attacks -Shion- asking her who is behind the curse (immediately also declaring that it must be their grandmother and telling Shion to confirm it while attacking Shion). There's really no logic to her actions aside from "lol she's crazy".
