/jp/ers, have you made anything lately? Previous thread (>>3896652).

It took a long time (mostly due to inaction), but /jp/ Project finally presents the release of The Dandelion Girl Kinetic Novel.

Any comments, concerns, bug reports, etc., post in the /jp/ Project forum (or here, whatever):

Surely the desire to create OC still burns within us. Let's do our best.

I'm really enjoying it so far. It helps a lot that it has a good script, but the script and music directing really fits it. It doesn't feel separate, tacked on if you will.

Some of the sprites do feel odd though, but it doesn't detract from the experience much once you get into it. One thing that really stands out are how dynamic some of the poses in some scenes are. It really conveys that feeling of something almost unreal, soft and light twirling around you, showing you the landscape.

I think you've done a great job.

The story is nice, albeit predictable.

The pleasantly photoshopped backgrounds were fine. The music, for the most part, wasn't noticeable at all-- exception, the spinning music, which I felt fit the scene pretty well. The character sprites I liked, although Julie crying with the :< face felt off, and one of the turned faces looked like the eyes were out of line. The screen-shaking effects, to be blunt, should be removed.

And now I finally know where that line's from.

Thanks, guys.

When I finished this, I asked myself if the VN adds anything worthwhile to the original short story. Aside from some of the music tracks, I'm not sure it does. The rewrite added some things I thought were unnecessary, like the "fufufu" anime catchphrases and Julie's "kill me" reaction, but it was adequate enough for me to keep reading. I think the limited skill of the artist to convey feeling was a big part.

Even Higurashi's original art was emotionally striking. This, not so much.

>> No.4418694

I had already read the short story beforehand, so I know you tampered with the fine details of the story. It feels like you've made it more modern, which is nice, although at times I feel like the mysterious atmosphere was ruined by it. It was interesting seeing how others interpreted the story through this visual novel, since when I read this in text form, the entire thing had a mysterious, ephemeral atmosphere, while when I read your visual novel, it felt more worldly.
It was an enjoyable experience, and I'm impressed with the work that was done, especially the music.

The really unfortunate thing about reading this is that, being a short VN, I considered it in context of the other similar-length VN I've read: "The Letter". This was an awful thing to do, given that the plot was almost an exact mirror. Of course, Dandelion Girl came far earlier. Accordingly, I figured out what was going on very, very, very early on in the story.

But the VN was, otherwise, great. Great music choices, pretty good art, and a mostly-fitting modernization/update/rewrite. I think this was probably done better than The Letter, though in large part due to the better actual writing.

Props to the team; good job.

Regarding:"kill me":

My speculation is that the writer was having a bad day when he wrote that, because when I first saw it I burst out laughing at how out-of-place it was. We gave him free reign with the story though, so that's why it was left in there.

Just finished reading it. I loved it. so I rushed a small sketch for our Julie.

go /jp/ make more nice things!

>> No.4419574

I must say that I am really impressed by this.

Having seen so many /jp/ original content projects waste away, it is really refreshing to see something has finally come out of it. And not only that, the finished product is of pretty high quality.

Like many of the above said, the music really does fit the story. I would go out on a limb and say that my favorite part about this work is the music. Music folks really did a fine job. My favorite song is probably "Mary".

Art wise, it could have been better, but it was passable. One instance that I thought the art did more harm than good was during the kill me scene. Julie's sprites looked more joking than sad, which sort of ruined the moment for me.

I liked the story alot, but this is coming from someone who hasn't read the original. I thought the story fit the game's other aspects well, so no problems with it.

Overall, congratulations on the project. I look forward to seeing more from you guys in the future.

Is that supposed to surprise me? Out of the legions of slobbering masses on 4chan, only a tiny handful of us are productive at anything. It's the same with rippers / scanners / translators / fansubbers and whatever else. They're all very small clusters of mostly the same individuals. I see nothing to be shocked over.

Whatever. He didn't do anything critical, just set all ellipses to the standard 3 dots. 99% of the work was done by /jp/ anons, and VDZ helped get things started in ONScripter. Saying that DG "shared staff" with KS is a load of bull.

As a couple of other anons have said, the shaking is retarded and should be cut.

That aside, the rest was pretty OK. I was surprised at the amount of sprites, and the music was pretty good.

I wouldn't want to read /jp/'s eroge if it's at this level though.

How would that be trolling? Maybe some Japanese people would like to practice their, uh, English-reading skills or something.

I don't think he's an "actual writer", but I guess he's aspiring to be one. Honestly, I think it's a bad idea to disclose your real name (or other personal, identifying information) publicly on the Internet, moreso on 4chan, but here's his blog link that he posted in the Dandelion Girl forum: http://emichaels.blogspot.com/

>> No.4425090

Just finished the game.

I think I prefer the original short story. I didn't like a couple of things in the rewrite, like the stupid kill me dialogue, that ruined that scene for me. I do like the girl's new personality with her twirls and stuff.

I don't think it's right to judge him based on this one story, so I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt. Well, that's all there IS right now, so I don't blame you.

I was thinking, after her quote.
"The day before yesterday I saw a rabbit, and yesterday a deer, and today, you."

It occurred to me that I've heard the quote before, but never read this story. I rattled my brains out trying to recall where I've read it before.
