I had many thoughts and theories about it. Looked through EGS reviews and found good stuff there.

I think the story itself isn't a complicated one once you know what's up with the MC and the girls and you see the ending. The hard stuff is interpreting all the little details about the girls and how they fit into MC's and his sister's story. I'm still not sure how bird and brain connect. IIRC brain was about academic life and social responsibilities of MC and his sister. Bird is the weirdest story with the rape by the father. Was the sister=bird raped? Was MC=bird raped by the father? It could be either way. He knew his sister got raped and maybe that awakened curiosity in him to rape the cat and have rape fantasies of his sister. Or he himself got raped and it fucked him up. The sister maybe knew and despite her own hate for him she felt pity or even guilt? The more I thought I concluded that he was the rape victim and the bird jumping to her death was him seeking his own release. The burning city talk fits him, too. But if he's the bird then what was with that last H-scene. IIRC it was weird and he talked about being the father who rapes her? I can't figure this one out. I'm also not entirely sure about Mitsuki and the tree. Did he at the hospital see her trying to hang herself? It wouldn't make sense since she is released. Maybe it happened long ago and was shown achronologically.

Bird was one of my favorites. I think it's hard to draw any definite conclusions but there's certainly shit going on in their family between the lines yeah. I found it interesting how in the epilogue his sister hardly talks about their parents even though going by MC's memories there's definitely a lot going on there. Personally I'm the least sure about what the doll represented, did you have thoughts on that? To me in all other scenes she was always very clinical and cold. "Did you write your report? What you're STILL not done? *sigh* why do I have to be here and oversee you." Something like that. In the last scene with Tonae she appeared to me more calm, nice, apologetic and tired? She hoped for improvement but another loop started. My final thought from that scene was that maybe if Semina acted the same caring and less clinical bitchy way with him things could improve. Be the sister he wanted and not this cold supervisor. In his thoughts he always hated the Semina we saw and it fuelled his anger and rape delusions. Without him realizing his sister reminded him of his sister and how inferior he felt to her.

Another thing I didn't quite understand is how was he able to walk around the hospital so freely? I interpreted the H-scenes as delusions that didn't happen in reality because staff would intervene when he fucks a cat or a doll or a bird. Yet the fact he was walking around alone on an empty rooftop is weird. The other locations would be observed. His kinship with Mitsuki is just two sick people interacting. If the H-scenes weren't all delusions it would mean the staff or Tonae would tolerate him abusing animals. At least I think the animals were real though I'm not sure a bird that can't fly would sometimes not be on the roof. It's all confusing.

Lastly Mitsuki. I would love to know more about her. Was she just a depressed and suicidal person or did she have deeper issues like MC? She seemed to understand him and I believe their talks happened. But then she was also a nutjob yet she got released. It wouldn't have fit as part of the game but maybe a spinoff focusing on her own hospital stay would've worked. Instead of the same abstract flesh horror it could've been told in a more basic way. On the other hand I don't mind that she remained mysterious to the end like an angel.

The HoshiOri MC aimed to become an architect. I thought he was a boring guy and too perfect. I went to school with a guy like that and hated him too. Always focused on grades and his life goals and unable to have fun, at age 16-18. And the HoshiOri MC came after Yuuma who was a typical hetare donkan but was more entertaining and normal for his age. For Semina I do think her coldness was real yeah. I think due to their strained relationship she just had a hard time not getting frustrated with him, especially since he'd often push her buttons too even when she was clearly trying to be patient. I did see her showing that softer/more caring side in their scenes together too, but MC would usually say something to set her off and ruin this. Tonae is her friend and is doing a huge favor for her, so it makes sense that in front of her Semina's demeanor is a bit different I think. It would probably help them if she could be more accepting and patient, but the issues in their relationship seem too deep set to be easily mended.

The hospital isn't a prison, and despite what he did to cats when younger (which Tonae doesn't even know about before the final scene anyway) MC isn't in there because he ever hurt anyone or did anything violent. There's no reason he needs to be kept too locked up. It's likely the sunset hours are his only "free time" too, and that he's just in his room or wing the rest of the day. It's possible he'd end up restricted more if has too many frantic episodes in the halls though.

The only animal h-scene I think could have happened in reality is the one where "Mahiru" is clearly cat sized and responding like a cat (and dies at the end), but since it seems like a cat is still around after this it was probably just a delusion/memory unless there was more than one cat around. He might have bullied the doll and ripped off the arms and thins like that but I doubt he fucked it in reality.

I'm actually not sure if it was a hospital. Mental institutions are prisons. Limited freedom is normal but I get you. My thought was in the direction that if the H-scenes weren't delusions then he would've fucked a cat in the courtyard. Even if he didn't do those things he still wandered about acting weirdly. He would've talked to himself in the library or to a jar in the backroom. That indicates delusions and delusional people can be a danger, that's why they are sometimes locked up. I think his memory of the early day was hazy because instead of teaching he was medicated. Then midday he visited Tonae and sometimes got medicated again. Something else I have to praise is the movement map. I loved how it changed in the later days with the pentagram and the distorted school bell. It was ominous and matched MC's messed up mind. Everything turned to chaos. It must've been fun to put sprites on random backgrounds. I won't do it but I wonder if I compared the final day scenes and which sprites appear where or the order of goodbyes if there's a meaningful structure to it or hidden meaning. I doubt they thought that far ahead.

Yeah I enjoyed this aspect of the ending. The first ending I get everything felt like a chaotic descent into madness, but the subsequent playthroughs had a lot more of a meditative quality to them as I took in all the dialogues and differences as he went through variations of the same routine.

I believe that Semina and Tonae talk about how Mutsuki seems like MC's only tie to reality and their connection presents a hope of bringing him back, however slight. Tonae wants to be cautious about this because her mental state is still fragile, but Semina plans to visit Mutsuki to thank her for being friends with MC, and it may or may not go somewhere from there.

And yeah the movement map was great. I also adored the music, the girl's themes, especially Mutsuki's, were just otherworldly.

This is one of the things I look for most in a romance story.
The protagonist needs to be a good enough guy to deserve the attention he gets.
