Manga (or video games, or anime, or novels, or any native material) are good supplements to studying. Alone, they are probably not sufficient to teach you the language. If you really want to understand Japanese, you are going to have to make a concerted effort to learn Japanese grammar and sentence structure in addition to "kanji and words". Otherwise, you're going to end up as one of these people who can identify individual words and say things like "I know this sentence is about 'studying' and 'school' and 'grades' but what specifically does it mean?"

So I would suggest that you supplement your manga study with an actual structured textbook like Genki, or at the very least some sort of grammar resource if you only have access to free internet resources (though the lack of structure can be an issue for some people).

The fact that kids are forced to learn a foreign language as early as in kindergarten is one of the big tragedies of modern education systems in my opinion.
Languages are a beautiful thing but by forcing little kids to learn Spanish you are ruining that for them.

i need to force myself to do something like that. i realized one of the reasons i lack motivation to learn stuff compared to when i was a kid is that i'm a lonely friendless neet that gets no stimulation from anything but my PC. my PC is my playstation, so using it for something boring that would help me in the future is very difficult as i get easily distracted. i feel understimulated yet desperate and frantic for stimulation so reading a fucking math textbook is hard even if i think it's important, as i want to watch some ultimately pointless youtube video i've got opened instead. i also think i have ADHD.
