I know it's a troll, but I still raged a little. Marisa is pretty good, since it's explicitly stated she has to work hard to be as powerful as she is, rather than that whore Reimu, who simply was "born with an affinity hurp derp."

But that won't do for Reimu and Marisa; if they don't keep eating, they'll get weak and eventually run down. A lot of foods high in salt content make great drink chasers and good snacks. Some rice and something salty would probably perk them right back up for a while.

No matter how you look at it, that just means you're doing exactly what Yukari wants you to do.

Gensokyo is the place it is because of Yukari's ability to control borders. Her power is what separates Gensokyo from the outside world. There really aren't any youkai in Gensokyo who could go against her will. Needless to say, a human probably wouldn't stand a chance.

And anyway, my point is, you have to see all these facts as a collective, not separately. A lot of Touhous are holding back or are cheerful (in a fairly normal way) or are youkai or are playable characters in a game. But not a lot have all of these at the same time.

I know, I've seen the arguments on /a/, though most would strongly defend her. Truth be told, I don't think of her as a mary sue type character but more the authors (and thus most the fans) power fantasy character. The fact the series is good doesn't really change this for me, it just makes it more tolerable.

I can see the argument some would have that you don't need to be a fan made character to be a mary sue, after all Wesley Crusher was among the first to be called something like that and is used as a example, but generally people misuse the term these days for any strong character they think is bullshit. It needs to be more extreme then mere strength though, it has to be like the author is projecting themselves, or someone they want to impress on to that character and then protecting them with all their might.

No matter how we look at it, the Major has been shit on a few times, though it's rare, she has been beaten and needed the help and sacrifices of her team to overcome problems. Same with pretty much all the main Touhou characters, Yukari, Reimu, Marisa have all been beaten and bested at times to the point they escape this kind of thing. People love to say Yukari is the strongest, but ZUN has shown several scenarios where there are people who can in their own way best her and frankly I think that adds to her character, being undefeated is dull.
