If you look at who's credited for background art in Mahoyo, it's just Yuuro, and Shimokoshi and Koyama as quality control. For the remake 6 different people are credited and Minori which they outsourced to.

I'm pretty sure it is just saying that Shiki's eyes(His pure eyes I assume is the real reason here) saw the invisible light of Vlov's principle/curse and assumed it was the death of the vampire itself(Which would have killed everything) but was mistaken. It shows that his eyes can separate and zone in on different 'targets' of an existence. Vlov's death point of existence is located in his neck rather than his chest in most CG's.

It's more than something he holds and believes. It's his guiding principle. A big part of Tsuki is how Aoko's teachings are sort of an implanted guidepost for a broken person.
Shiki's greatest foil is himself unironically since it's more about staying true to the person he thinks he should be. We're told he's a wolf among the herd trying to belong which is why the moments he decides to bear his fangs and take life are so important as he understands the meaning of life more than anyone. The principles that saved him and the values he holds dear let him return to society. But he's abnormal from the start and possesses an inhumanness due to how he's lived with death, a monster whose trying to hold onto what he has and who he is but is precariously close to falling off the path. It's why Aoko says it would have been so much easier on him to just stray rather than be the best person he could have. Nanaya is the harbinger of his own demise in the end and something he has to balance because when faced with an impossible situation or even the nature of his relationships with certain heroines that nature comes to the forefront. There is a sense that he's no better, even worse than the monsters he's fighting because at his core Shiki can and will toss away his place in society and he's gotta deal with those decisions. Various figures and situations can facilitate these scenarios. In Remake I expect certain farside characters and Roa when the truth of the past comes out to really make things go even crazier.

Yes, that is what he believes, but the principles are ultimately too simplistic to be challenged in a real way from something tangible. He can fail to uphold them for various reasons but this often doesn't come from anything anyone has any agency over, so there's nothing to address.
The remake, to it's credit, tries to do something with this already in Ciel route through stuff like his conversation with Roa while watching Noel kill people on the street, stopping himself from doing anything to Kohaku by trying to kill himself and Noel in general but there's no real compelling arguments to be made because the Aoko stuff is so obviously morally correct that any alternative looks deranged and callous at best and actively malicious at worst. You can't truly subvert them or show a failing inside of them to bounce off of, things that disagree with it are simply wrong from the outset.
