Since ZUN doesn't care about her we might as well theorize some bullshit, is there any youkai related to martial arts? After a Google search the best i could find was tengu being extraordinarily good at martial arts but Meiling is probably not that, her being a dragon (a two headed rainbow chinese one) and her just being dragon themed could go either way, and if we wanted to go full chinese we could just say she's a yaoguai, although that wouls mean she should have animal attributes of some sort unless she's hidding them and lastlu we could stretch it and say she's a reference to son wukong.

My personal opinion is that she's a martial artist in a world where everything is resolved by danmaku. I imagine if everything were resolved by martial art she'd be one of the strongest characters in setting, but since its not she comes off as weaker than she actuallly is.
I imagine danmaku doesn't come naturally and its harder for her to express herself with it.

Remilia likely chose her because its both a status thing to have someone so strong as the front door guard and because she's actually good at keeping the actual threats out most of the time, the incident resolvers are playing by danmaku rules which means they're not genuine threats and Mizuchi is a vengeful spirit which is a poor match-up for all youkai so its not fair to hold that against her.

I love asatoshi and azure but i feel like there isn't THAT much of a difference between those two. People forget that Meiling is a master at martial arts or at least good enough to fire chi and make danmaku with it, so i don't think it's too farfetched for her to pull off some fist of the north star shit to even out the differences, alternatively she may operate on dbz logic and use her chi to amplify her strength, a normal himan like Krillin created a technique that allowed him to harm someone much stronger than him so i can't see why Meiling couldn't do something like chi fists to at least knock Yuugi back. Obviously this is assuming she's allowed to use chi, it would depend on the context of the fight i guess.

I'd say it depends entirely on how seriously Yuugi takes the fight. She strikes me as someone who has rarely ever had to give it her all. She's known for her physical strength among a race that is already known for their great physical strength so I don't imagine she has encountered beings that required anything more than her natural brute strength to beat. Meiling is probably quick and skilled enough to evade Yuugi but I think the biggest hurdle for her would be getting through Yuugi's natural durability to land meaningful blows that will force her to take Meiling seriously. With any luck, Yuugi doesn't have much more to her beyond that raw strength but Meiling might be fucked if it turns out Yuugi does have techniques of her own up her sleeve like some form of oni martial arts.

Personally I think Yuugi's fighting style would be something akin to boxing.

akyuu describes the lunarians weapons (which are clearly just machine guns) as hopelessly outmatching the yokai, so i'd think that yokais wouldn't just have ironskin or whatever because then bullets wouldn't matter to them, especially the types of yokai that the great yukari yakumo would be bringing to war with the moon, but that would also mean that the strongest yokai like vampires and oni wouldn't be as scary as you'd think because they bleed just like anyone else, and THAT doesnt make sense because characters like reimu and sakuya use physical weaponry on them, like needles and knives, so they gotta have some substantial physical resistance to just tolerate being pelted with sharp objects for the sake of some game.

I don't know, I feel like it would depend entirely on how they work in the setting specifically. Like how in some forms of media, vampires can shrug off most forms of mortal weaponry and recover from damage almost instantly while in other settings they have a bit of a recovery time and aren't quite as invincible. There are also the various strengths and weaknesses they are portrayed as having that are present in some stories and absent in others.

Oni are comparatively straight forward in terms of what they can do but even with that, just how physically powerful depends on the specific story and I don't know if we have any hard examples of what Touhou oni are capable of in terms of pure strength.
