I finished core 2.3k and I was planning to finally start reading, but my grammar was super bad since I never practiced it. So, instead of reading, I got a random sentence deck on anki and for even fairly basic sentences I am getting things wrong, but the actually bad part is I thought I was right until I flipped the card. So, how is "just read more" supposed to work? If I went straight to reading I would of read things wrong and not even known I was reading it wrong. Based on my experience you can reach the level where you can understand most audio raw and only need few dictionary lookups per page in LNs with a few unknown Kanji readings per chapter in less than a year easily if you're doing at least a couple hours a day provided you have your weekends where you no life it too. It's hard to be sure my methods were good or if would have learned just as fast otherwise, but I really felt that I got a ton out of listening to anime series I had already watched with subs, after which listebing to raw audio stopped being so foggy and became mich more clear still with tons of unknown words. Then i listened to HxH (a series i knew well in english, basically i remember every scene) and i felt a lot of improvement from that. And then when I read my first VN I listened to a let's play of it and then repeated that with 2 more VNs and that's when shit really skyrocketed. I first started with small YouTube videos and doujins and stuff and subtitled anime. The easiest series I found was hokuto no Ken but it doesn't matter too much. I also tried to make sure I've also never neglected either listening or reading. Now I'm getting into WNs and LNs with a lot less free time than before. If you have free time put in the hours while you can. I'm really grateful to my past self right now cause having only a couple hours to immerse is a lot more doable now that I leveled up so much from the no lifing months. I feel like I'm faster every week and grasping little grammar bits more naturally every week. Basically my number one point of advice that seemed to help a lot (maybe placebo) is to listen to stuff you already read/watched with subs. I felt my vocabulary increasing like dozens or hundreds a day or something when I did that

the only way you can reinforce a mistake is by studying the same sentence with over and over again. but if you just read real text and see the word in different contexts, the mistake will be corrected, because the different sentences won't all make sense at the same time unless you understand the given word/construct right.
there's no other way of learning a language than by constantly making hypotheses as to what things mean, which often will turn out wrong. children tend to have all sorts of ridiculous misconceptions about what things mean, but they end up correcting them over time, because that's what continuous exposure to novel pieces of real language necessarily does.
literally the only way to reinforce incorrect understanding while reading new real texts all the time is if there's some grand conspiracy to feed you specially prepared crippling material. so just don't read the Japanese you see on 4chan and you'll be good as long as you keep immersing

nuke would make a lot of progress if he had english subs available for backup because there are times when he gets completely lost. he also justifies reading the next sub line before it has played by saying it's to learn new vocabulary on his first watch by reading and that he will do raw listening with the condensed audio later but i somehow doubt he follows up on that
