I have the physical original copy of this. This is my favorite 2hu art that I have. I think it's something that could be hung on a wall and not immediately look like it's actually an anime girl from a video game.

I think there's a little niche for people who want art of their favorite 2hu's but don't want to be outed as a closeted weeb.

I kinda want to have a picture of Yuukarin in my room or something, but since I'm not really much of a weeaboo outside of touhou I don't want to have the stigma of being "that guy" for what would pretty much be a single poster.
Having it not look like something from an anime or video game would actually be perfect for someone like me.

An 2hu artist from the UAE. Their Twitter is Thethirdeye06. Though like many artists I think they frequently go into mental health spirals. It took basically a year from my first email to them for me to actually receive the painting.

What's weird is I was going to pull it from danbooru because I remember it was there and didn't feel like searching my drive for the video. I'm personally too young to have experienced the golden age of vidya magazines. In fact, I don't think I've ever even seen one with my own eyes. Despite this they're still really nostalgic to me. I once impulsively looked for old half-life 2 reviews (A game that's only barely younger than me) and ended up finding a digitized mag on google books. Was great fun reading that, innit.
You millennials had it so comfy in the 2000s (and probably the 90s too but that doesn't give that same melancholy to me), I'm genuinely quite jealous

Could be, if you define the pinnacle as illustrated realism. I never dwelled on it before but it seems rather obvious now that a cosplay model was referenced. His other Touhou pieces don't have the same level of realism, though they're still great nonetheless.

The artist has a 40+ year career making analog art and works as an art teacher. Pic rel is something I found browsing through the twitter feed of the school he works at.
