A lot of the words don't even have English equivalents, though you wont have to worry about getting the meanings down exactly at first. Yes, dictionaries are very useful. They let you figure out what many sentences are roughly supposed to convey even when you cant understand them yet, which boosts the speed at which your brain acquires the content of those sentences significantly. I've never used yomichan I always just looked them up manually but you can do whatever you want.
