Isn't sake bug quite literal? It's elaborated on a lot during the small sake bug arc in the Fairies manga.

The word is "sake bug" straight up (酒虫, pronounced shuchuu and comprised of... well, the "sake" and "bug" kanji) and during that arc Eirin used their mysterious nature to trick the fairies into thinking there were bugs (plural) in the pot that would make them sick. Suika also later goes on to indeed call it a bug (no uncertain terms), not a salamander.

Now do note: yes, it doesn't look like a bug. That said, it also doesn't look like a salamander. It looks like a weird salamander/catfish hybrid--at least in the Fairies manga design.

I say that since its design *could* have changed. It's unclear. Lotus Eaters hasn't shown sake bugs in-person but has talked about them and drawn imagery for them. Kanako's nightmare from Miyoi was also of her being eaten by a salamander "that looks like a sake bug". Given this is Miyoi's choice and she was aghast by the sight of one, going "nope" in seconds perhaps the idea of this nightmare creature is just Miyoi's impression of it.

Heard that Reimu's actually questioning whether or not Mizuchi's her real name. Things are pointing to the possibility that maybe Mizuchi was a Hakurei like the autists pointed out, but I don't have too much hope. Not many Touhou print works give out happenings as big as that notion.

They start to fight but Yukari appears
Yukari: Mizuchi, gensokyo isn't like that anymore, deal with it
Mizuchi: Yukari! I'll finish you once and for all
Yukari dodges and shitposts at her until Satori's crew shows up and Orin wheels her back to hell
Somewhere along the way, Mizuchi realizes no one cares and stops resisting
Mizuchi is promtly forgotten until they need a background character for a hell stage of a fighting game

Quite an exceptional feat for a human, but still far from what certain youkai or gods can archieve with their unique abilities. Unlike them she doesn't have any, she's just very good at magic.

I don't think this is necessarily an inferiority complex or depression. She doubts her abilities as a magician, so her being upset makes sense since it's what she's supposed to be good at.
Anyone trying to learn a skill like drawing or learning a language knows that after reaching a certain level you might consider yourself good at it, but at some point you will inevitably realize just how much there's left to learn.
Here she tried too hard to find something non-existent due to a false assumption, she was overconfident and ultimately discovered someting she's not good at. Turns out you can't understand something that doesn't exist in the first place, even if you're using all of your knowledge.

But it only took some sake and words from Miyoi for her to use this failure as an opportunity to go back to her researches and try something else, definitely not what a depressed person would do.
Well we'll have to wait for the next chapter to know if whatever she's trying to do is a success or another failure, but to me this chapter just shows how hardworking she is. She can have moments of doubt, but always ends up learning someting new in the end.
