It's because people are more exposed to Higurashi than Umineko. As other anons said it earlier, it's the anime, but also the manga, the gacha and all the merch that have helped boost Higurashi's popularity (for better or worse). Not to forget how memed Higurashi has become at least on the Western side of Internet. Higurashi has more content because how well-known the series is (due to the Deen anime), which leads people to follow Higurashi more than Umineko. Memes of "200+ hour Umineko" discourage people getting into reading the VN (or even the manga), which isn't helped how people meme and spread how rumours how "bad" the ending is.
Having read all the main VNs from 07th Expansion, I find Rose Guns Days as clearly the best work Ryukishi has ever written (outside WTC). Sadly it doesn't get much deserved love despite having a manga adaptation, it has the same problem as Umineko: not enough exposure

More on this topic, has there been any theory regarding Rika's/Bernkastel's and Satoko's/Lambdadelta's appearance in Ciconia? Takano is already there as Vier, so we can rule her out as "Lambdadelta". I've been wondering and theorizing if Koshka and Lilja are Bernkastel and Lambdadelta, or in other words, Rika and Satoko.

In the "extra material" you unlock after reading the main story, it was stated that Koshka was bored and unmotivated to participate in any activity until Lilja showed up. Didn't Bernkastel state in Umineko how she was bored until she was reunited with Lambdadelta? Also in Ciconia, Lilja acts like a cat, because that's the way to amuse Koshka and keep her co-operating with Lilja. It's as if they already had some history together and Lilja meowing to Koshka is to settle some things and come terms with each other. It might have something to do with how Lilja and Koshka often squabble with each other. For example, Lilja is very boisterous how she is a fine lady while Koshka is some country bumpkin. Like how Satoko claimed to be a fine lady in Higurashi? Would the reason for Lilja "nipah'ing" be that she remembered Rika/Koshka saying same things when they were in Hinamizawa? Considering how Bernkastel remembered Satoko's/Lambdadelta's cake puzzle from the club activities.

The most interesting piece in Ciconia is how both Lilja and Koshka wish for "this" world to end, as if there's new worlds to go after this one's over. Though a lot of characters feel the same way and wish for the A3W world to end, so it doesn't really prove anything, yet. Koshka and Lilja are "equipment" and can have their brain/soul separated from their current body. Koshka said in the Phase 2 preview (from the end of Phase 1) that she could finally get a new body, as in looping to a new world and new body? Another aspect about looping I noticed in Ryukishi's works is how Satoko takes a name resembling Takano when looping to a new body (in Umineko Lambdadelta, in RGD Miyo "Meryl" Tanashi). Probably because it reminds similarly looping Rika the awful memories about Takano. Since this time Takano is already around, Satoko took a another name that's still terrifying towards Rika, or rather, Koshka.

"Koshka" translates directly to "a cat", while "Lilja" means "lily". Their co-operation is contradicting, because in real life lilies are poisonous for cats. It's interesting that despite how poisonous the duo is to each other, they can't live without each other (or else they'd be unmotivated to do anything). Maybe it's the boredom that makes them seek out for new challenges and dangers, eventually fighting each other (in RGD, Meryl and Stella promised to settle all things in a gun fight). This was just a small theory that came in my mind, since Rika/Bernkastel and Satoko/Lambdadelta had to be somewhere in Ciconia, even if they weren't straight-up told to be there. I wish Ryukishi to finally release Ciconia Phase 2 so we could continue the story

Gou/Sotsu outright stated Satoko = Vier. The person in the factory scene has an older brother, so I'd guess that's all related to Vier somehow, making the Satoko association less random. The issue is that Gou/Sotsu made it sound like Ciconia is a -prequel-, so there can be no "proper" Bernkastel there.

Some people seem to think Ciconia will be a big Lambdadelta origin story due to all that, but I don't think so. In fact, twice recently, R07 alluded to it going into an incident with Eua in the past that leads to -Hanyuu-'s origin (Sotsu audio-commentary for the last episode and the 20th anniversary event). (Gou itself and interviews about it also suggest Eua will directly appear in Ciconia at some point with the "Eua" name itself).

That would leave no space for an actual "Rika" character in Ciconia, since Bern's origin lies in Higurashi, something made explicit a few times (like manga panels showing Rika and Hanyuu in Bern-related flashbacks or even a recent side-story in Mei written by R07 where Bern outright talks about being Rika's inhuman side).

(Koshka being Rika's piece for obvious reasons).

But aside from that, I don't believe that Ciconia necessarily will have a duo as obviously referencing Rika/Satoko or Rika/Takano as the other novels did. Even in RGD, Stella only barely resembles Rika, and you wouldn't draw a connection between the two of them at all if it weren't for Meryl's presence.

I'm not too surprised that a higurashi x umineko gacha event would touch upon this topic. He also had Bern directly reference her involvement in higurashi during the Saku epilogue. But still, that does not influence the main VNs in any tangible way.
I don't see how small references like that are supposed to foreshadow some sort of canonical meta crossover within Ciconia, which is as different in tone and setting from either higurashi or umineko as it possibly could be. Hanyuu is an established figure within higurashi, a goddess alien species who ended up in the human realm centuries ago in the past, while Ciconia takes place decades or centuries into the future.
As abstract as it may end up being, I cannot imagine the entire setup being wasted on a backstory for hanyuu.

Phase 01's plot is more developed, but R07 completely failed in introducing the main cast. The dynamics of the Miyao/Jayden/Gunhild trio are poor. The whole gender ambiguity thing with the initial -protagonist- is dumb.

It also doesn't help there's no self-contained loop for the first arc, so it just ends on a big cliffhanger. Well, Umineko also did in a way, but you still had the "full" mystery there.

The preview scenes at the end of Phase 01 didn't show any dead characters. We also have a short written preview for Phase 02 which seems to just continue from the ending too.

Some gauntlet knights died at the end, but not that many. Miyao and Jayden are alive. Out of the main trio, only Gunhild died and she always clearly secondary compared to Miyao/Jayden.

In that scene specifically there were tons of new gauntlet knights that had never been there before, without sprites or names. The scene is basically set up so they could play that out without necessarily decimating the entire cast. It's completely different from Umineko's or Higurashi's early endings.
