My theory is this.
They believe, correctly or not, that they can make more ad revenue from "flux" channels (streamers, vloggers) than from "catalog" channels. For the former, "sort by oldest" is at best useless and at worst a nuisance because it makes it easier to compare new and old content.
"Sort by oldest" is especially bad for "catalog" producers trying to become "flux". Why would anyone want to watch their lame vlogs if they have easy access to piles of good content already?
