The what if dreams incorporated into TsukihimeR is straight out of the epilogue while Arc is dreaming and Shiki is searching for a way to her. And like anon said the whole saving Arc from her chained throne, bloodlust and destiny of being CM's vessel is a integral part of her existence, tragedy and their fated romance. It was present in KT as well. It's still why Arc vanishes at the end of R. We've gotten allusions to it and Tsuki 2 in general too since R.

As for finding the castle. It was apparently hard and Ciel did help in the manga. You guys also need to remember that fairy lands are possible to just fall into so it's not like getting there is actually 100% impossible. Roa/Church had access back in 1200 AD too at least so the church may have some means of at least reaching it. Actually breaking through it is probably possible since ultimately everything has an end and Shiki's eye's post Tsuki were getting stronger. Especially now in remake where it seemed like he was emitting death itself or perhaps overwriting.

I'm currently reading the tsukihime remake after finishing the original + KT and finished the day when Shiki kills Arcueid.

One thing I noticed is that it's actually Kohaku pretending to be Hisui that's lying to him about nothing being wrong with him and that there was no blood. I only now retroactively noticed this is the same in the original VN as well, but was there any scene that explained why Kohaku did this in the near side routes?

I didn't do all the bad endings of the original VN so I'm mainly asking if there's important info I've missed somewhere in the original VN.

I get that Gil isn't that great at hand-to-hand combat, having never mastered a single weapon. But he's still a servant, shouldn't he be an order of magnitude stronger and faster than Shirou? Off the top of my head I can only think of Kuzuki and Bazett and thats due to extrodanary circumstances. Kuzuki is buffed by Caster and only manges to get the drop on Saber, Archer destoys him after Casters gone. Bazett bascially has a noble phantasm and also return by death.

I guess there's also Caster vs Rin but it makes sense for caster to be completely useless in hand to hand combat.

Arc literally was broken by Shiki. To the degree she went insane and completely bugged out and transformed from their meeting. The epilogue of the manga where she questioned whether not biting him was the right choice makes me think she'll totally transform him eventually.
