anyone here read that purple logic manga? the one that had a contest over discovering the culprit that had to be cancelled because they fucked up and made it unsolvable? i'm interested in thoughts on who the culprit was supposed to be, and what the actual mistake was.
my guess for culprit is kyrie (her and rudolf's 'deaths' make it pretty blatant- one gunshot and two gun victims? sure jan), and my guess for the mistake is the bit about who can use the wire cutters- they might have meant to include nanjo in with the servants but failed to specify that. so nanjo cuts the chain and toddles off to have an alibi while kyrie kills them. plus the bit about the culprit hating the family matches her best of the options available. what do you think?

What was with the whole Berserker plotline? I couldn't make any connections with those scenes and anything else that was happening in the story. There was a lot of stuff with cannibalism and child abuse, but it seemed to go nowhere.
Why did Hibiki disappear in the first story?
Was Meito purely fictional? There was some kind of plot with him killing his mom and suiciding towards the end. Was any of that real?
I didn't really get the Aguni part at all, but I've forgotten pretty much all of it.
I'm debating whether I should reread it and try to make more sense of it.

But Meito is probably copied off by Valkyrie who is opposing Odin's plan and wants to use him as a pawn.
A lot of the meta plot feels like something an Umineko fan would do, just like the first chapter is a love letter to Higurashi I think everything after is influenced by Umi. People are written with backstories by the administrators, but at the same time they believe they've lived their whole lives as their own people. So in a way they could be considered both pure fiction and real lives. On top of that characters have been plucked from original settings and placed in different ones, so it's unclear who the "real" one would be in such a case. Aguni is just another world, an old world that Odin or Valkyrie probably took Sou and Riri from and placed in Myth.
Don't even remember anything about Hibiki.
I'm definitely going to reread it now. Though it's been five years for me. I take a look at the "notebook" to refresh my memory and it's all insane rambling that used to make perfect sense to me. Especially the part where he scribbles symbols beside events to hint at whether he thinks something happened due to it being part of a story or due to his own will is cool.

Satokowashi is really good. Oniakashi has some good additions for Rika and Satoko, but the core of the Rena plot isn't changed and is just as weak as the anime's. Wataakashi is very different from the anime version, and is basically split in two halves. Both are good, but they don't connect well, leaving the arc in an odd situation. Tatariakashi/Nekoashi are just very rushed versions of Sotsu's Tatari and first two Kagurashi episodes arcs that exist to cover the respective events, and the weakest part of the manga.

The final arc has just stated, but so far it does seem like it's actually following on all the extra set up Meguri has had, like making it an actual game between Rika and Satoko (with Rika investigating Satoko and attempting to understand what's going on and how she's doing all this rather than it coming down to a final battle out of nowhere with Rika getting no info about the plot), and bringing the club into the conflict.

You have Knox and Dine trying to fit their rules to the game, as well as Bern trying to define XYZ rules, but while they have some success they don't quite fit... because there's an underlying ruleset that's similar to/informed by those rulesets, which Battler becomes aware of when he has his epiphany (whatever that epiphany even is, given he'd already figured out Kinzo was dead...) Replace the pointless magic teacup gold with something like "if you believe in it, magic will be real" or some shit, referring to the mechanic where widespread lies turn into fantasy scenes. Then in the end, since the golden text is used to define a world, Ange can use it to define her own world with beliefs like "my family was good people" and "there's someone still out there and we'll meet again someday".

all that happened in Gou was because Eua showed Satoko that she lived in a videogame and her friends were literal replaceable NPCs though, kinda like how Rika stops caring about failed loops and is perfectly happy at the end of Matsuribayashi. nobody would remain the same person they were after having their entire worldview flipped upside down like that and learning that everyone they know and love aren't "real" so to speak. without Eua Satoko would have just flunked out of school and into a normal housewife life like in Reiwa, not hurting anyone. plus she did have that moment in Tatari where she regrets everything but like her bad side takes over and starts calling herself a witch, so she's very definitely and explicitly not the same Satoko anymore, and we know these splits happen to loopers as per Saikoroshi.

I feel like the drama CDs are the actual most horrific and heart-pounding versions of Higurashi. Since the audio has to do the entire work, scenes that were already horrific in the VN like the nail ripper scene are so unbelievably gutrenching, and the part where Shion screams for her mother's help (which sadly wasn't in the anime) who's right in front of her is just, God, I had to pause that scene a few times. And if you read the VN you already know what they're saying in those scenes too. It also does a way better job than the DEEN anime since it doesn't skip scenes and actually keeps most of the incredibly important character monologue when necessary.

It also adds some things the VN didn't have, like, didn't you think it was a bit odd that the characters didn't have much of a reaction to their friends being shot dead at the end of Minagoroshi? The Drama CD fixes that, they all lose their goddamn minds as they should:

Well, the point is that due to using looping without enough power weird shit happens. Like I said, in Matsuribayashi itself the lack of memories are said to be due to Hanyuu's lack of power. Either way, in both cases something goes wrong, it's just what goes wrong that's different.

She learns to take initiative though, which should lead to solving the issue when Satoko retracts herself. Also, Satoko's problem in Gou/Sotsu anime isn't really the same as the one in the past. She sees Rika as an idiot who's making a dumb choice and will regret it soon, and when that doesn't happen, suddenly lashes out and blames Rika for everything that's going wrong there. This is nothing like when she blamed herself for Satoshi and actively punished herself for it. So, it's not like that specific incident would even help.
