On the MoriyaShrine page for the game there's someone in the comments linking a custom launcher that allows you to play on a 3rd party server. I don't know how trustworthy it is, and a single person said it no longer works, but I'm too lazy to test myself.

There's also Shinten, which is a mod loader/manager that allows you to play on a 3rd party server. In fact the MoriyaShrine launcher might literally be the same as this, again I haven't tested it. I also don't know if it'll even work with pirated copies of the game.

Moriyashrine is the only place I found that is reliable, but people there are saying the multiplayer is kaput since the game verifies installation with Steam. But I couldn't say for sure if the reported patches work since I haven't tried them. You could give it a try and report back.

I beat the entire campaign of Skydrift so all circuits and characters are available now for whoever joins tomorrow.

Another thing. I don't know the first thing about Minecraft servers since I have only ever played solo for years, but I checked a tutorial and made one as best as I could. I used this site called Aternos because it's free and they said it's good. If anyone wants to join let me know because I don't even know how to invite or let people join lmao but at least it's made. It doesn't have any mods or anything yet since it's new and idk what would be cool to add.

NMRIH is hard coded to not have double digit player numbers or the server will crash, so the most you can get is 9 players, and even thats with mods and plugins and stuff

Hey Fudge, you were absolutely right about the Oni Patch not being installed correctly. I went digging around online and those extra characters like the Prismrivers should've been there in the hub at the very start of the game.
All of the Oni Patch assets are in the game folder but whoever installed it deleted the Oni Patch version's .exe and kept the base game's .exe, probably because the translation of the game is inside the .exe itself, which means that none of the Oni Patch content is actually accessible. It's an incredibly stupid situation and somehow no one's really said anything about it for at least the 5 years since it's been up on Moriya Shrine.
I guess I'll try to see if I can MTL it or something.

I've been thinking of hosting a Serious Sam 3 (Fusion version) event for this summer or december with a lot of mods in it, and I'm not sure if you guys are up for it, Serious Sam 3 gets very cheap on sale (less than 2$) and has a lot of Touhou mods in the workshop and I've been thinking of hosting the main campaign with some Touhou related mods with some additional mods to it.
The game uses Peer-to-peer AFAIK so we can play it together easily, the game can become very chaotic and stupid and I think you would love it.

I don't really care if ZUN says it's not canon, I think the only reason he hasn't done one is because it would mean he had to actually be consistent.
I'd be happy enought revising it anytime a major new area got added, but as it stands I don't think there's a hell of a lot left to go there.
We already have hell, former hell, the moon, heaven, YM & associated areas, the SDM, the Netherworld (Totally not associated with hell btw), the Sanzu river, FoM, BFoL, the GoS, and the HV.
Realistically, there can't be all that much room for new areas conceptually, and therefore physically. I'd bet money on any new areas being seperate from Gensokyo dimensionally, like Makai (Or hell i think? It's never made clear to me what hell is in touhou beyond where your soul goes for a while before reincarnation.)
Therefore, an agreed upon map would be interesting to work out, if nothing else.

I would love to since SM has better encounters than 4 and better gimmicks overall, but there some restraints :

-Serious Engine 4 runs worse than Serious Engine 2017 for some reason, or atleast on my machine
-There not that many Touhou Related mods for SM, I can make some models but these will take more time since SE4 requires more extra steps for creating playermodels, so I cannot pump characters that easily
-Serious Sam 4 has a 4 player co-op limit instead of the usual 32 (I don't know if SM doesnt have that issue), even if you manage to surprass the limit with a mod, the framerate will be unbearable for others, or atleast in my experience

Other than that, I think I will prefer to use Fusion because it has more mods and can be adjusted to work on weaker machines and that means that more players will be able to join without depending on having a decent PC.

It wouldn't even be difficult to make a map for Gensokyo itself, barring Otherworlds like Heaven, The Netherworld, etc. Because the entire area is based on a real life location. (Mostly around the Yatsugatake Mountain.) There are a good few maps people have made that are based upon that real world region, and those would probably be the "most canon" maps of Gensokyo out there.

I'm actually uploading a copy with SSE in it right now, and from what I can tell it all works for singleplayer at least. I just need someone else to download it so we can test it and see if it works in multiplayer, which by all means it should. Run SSELauncher.exe, and go to file>settings to change your name, otherwise it will probably use your computer name. then double click Sam2017_Unrestricted to start the modded version of the game. I put several mods in there, and it seems to auto load them, so you shouldn't have to enable them in game. If anyone has gone this far, make a post or something and I'll put a server up so anyone can try and join.
So far I haven't really fiddled with any of the SSE settings so I don't know if it needs more tweaking or not.

To the person who was in the server, my game crashed.
Someone DID join, so I guess that proves it works.

The person who managed to join said he didn't fiddle with anything and it just worked. I'm not sure why it isn't working, but from what I remember sometimes you have to run SSELauncher as admin for it to work properly, so can you try that?

Really strange. Can you try some stuff in the SSE settings? Firstly, run it as admin, then go into file>settings then advanced settings, and set "jp" as the online key, then go to networking and set the port as 7777, as I have that one open. Also, as it emulates steam, you can open the SSE overlay with shift+tab, and anyone online in the network you can see on the friends list.
Anyway, the server is up again.

Open up the unrestricted serious sam and try to join via the emulated steam menu through friends or servers

The guy hosting the server with 8 people in it here, sorry I didn't realize so many were unable to join. A new anon joined and said the server listed a max player count of 8, so I think starting it as a survival server may have broke it. He also said turning his firewall off let him join, though several were in already, it may help if you were unable to get in before.
I restarted it, so please try again if it wasn't working before.
